From the jungles in the unmapped tropics of Terrinoth comes the savage Arumbaya. Bearing blowguns of exquisite accuracy dispensing darts dipped in the deadliest of amphibian excreted toxins, the agile Arumbaya is not to be sold short. Least of not, the wizened Arumbaya Shaman Master!

Sized 1 x 1, these half-pint natives from the leafy depths are there one minute, gone the next; Or are they?

I wanted to give them some sort of nimble attribute, having them ducking and weaving through the undergrowth. I first thought of giving them Stealthy, but I was keen to keep their group number high, and Stealthy seemed a little too powerful en mass.
Then it came to mind, actually giving them the ability to move, shoot, then duck for cover with Spry was pretty feasible and fit the brief

Yes! They definitely remind me the pygmies from the third act of Diablo II.

As I don't have an RPG culture, I do find that those Pygmies are quite "Amazonian".
Why not call them Arumbayas or another more "amerindian" name (well, Arumbaya comes from the "Tintin" comics).

The Spry surge ability is very nice !
Sneaking little buggers !thumbsup

I really like the Spry mechanic, I think that as a whole these guys might be a bit too damaging, especially the red one (Surge for Pierce 3, Poison and Sorcery). That said I really like them as a whole. Great job!

It's just Pierce 2; Pierce 3 ... now that may have been a little much

In comparison to other monsters with the same group numbers, the damage is reasonably similar...

With max damage and surges rolled (act II master monsters):
Assumed att test failed for any attached cond.
vs 'no def rolled'...

Zombie 7(+2)+dis. : 9+dis.
Shade 7 : 7
Goblin 6(+2) : 8
Cave Spider 6(+3)+poi. : 9+poi.
Skel Arch 4(+2) : 6
Arumbaya 5(+2)+poi. : 7+poi

vs '2 def rolled' (to take into account pierce)...

Zombie 7(+2)(-2/0)+dis. : 7+dis.
Shade 7(-2/+2) : 7
Goblin 6(+2)(-2/0) : 6
Cave Spider 6(+3)(-2/0)+poi. : 7+poi.
Skel Arch 4(+2)(-2/+2) : 6
Arumbaya 5(+2)(-2/+2)+poi. : 7+poi

2 thirds of those monsters have higher health than the Ayum, and the ones that don't, have a higher movement rate. Yes, Ayum has Spry, but all the other monsters have an additional feature also.

So I'm feeling the balance is about right ... I've yet to do a hardcore playtest with them, but if I find they do seem a touch tougher (the master at least) I'll possibly knock his Act II Sorcery back a point, possibly.

I perhaps have a stupid idea here.
Why not, when an Arumbaya is killed, leave a token in his square, which represents a blowgun?
An adjacent hero can take it as a search action - and places the token next to his hero card (with no "hands" or other limitation)
The blowgun is a one shot missile weapon, which uses blue and yellow attack dice, but has the Poison and (surge) Pierce 2 ability.
When used for an attack, the token is discarded.

I'm liking the dropped item on defeat thing.

I'm not sure if the Arumbaya is the go with this though; I believe the inherent dangers of pressing a lethally poisoned blow dart gun that took years to master by a deviant midget against your puckered lips is a risk any seasoned adventurer would not be likely to take.

As I said though ... I'm keen on the idea (I certainly don't think it's a stupid one), and I'd like to pursue it with with the next beastie.

Hmmm, maybe a Clockwork Automaton that collapses in a pile containing a salvageable object of some type, or a Little Shop of Horrors style plant-beast that drops a pod of some sort on expiring. Yes indeed.
