Hi,
played a few games of formula D now and found it lots of fun.
On the base game Monaco track (fantastic track/graphics), no one yet has got into 6th gear, i guess due to not long enough of a straight to do so.
I would love a track with a "big finish"..6th gear finale.
Which track do regular players find the best/most fun?
thanks.

I believe you may be playing too conservatively. Just because a corner says stop twice, it doesn't mean you have to. You can stop in it once, and then gear up for a big exit. Sure you'll take tyre wear, but you'll easily hit sixth gear. The majority of occasions you'll find your opponents will have no choice but to follow suit.

Yup. You've got to drive like a mad man! I love the feelin of rolling "Big Blue" at the end of a race to either win or go out in a blaze of glory. It's all or nothing in Formula D!

It's important to remember that Formula D is really a resource management game. You start with a certain level of resources which you can expend for advantages throughout the race. Don't be afraid to spend everything you can - you don't get anything for crossing the finish line with 4 points left on your tires. When you picture your car crossing the finish line, it should be a wreck, preferably on fire, hopefully in front.

I played a game with my family last night (the 2nd round of our Formula One Championship that I'm going to do reports on soon!)... and we played on the Valencia circuit. The last corner is a one-stopper, and provided you get a good exit from the previous corner, (a 3-stopper), pretty much most of the cars finished using 6th gear, after going into 5th leading up to the last corner.

It's definitely my favourite track, as it's technical, and that first two-stopper near the start really cripples a lot of players if they mis-judge it.

I'm yet to play my newly-delivered Sebring & Chicago tracks yet though, but I love the look of Sebring. That'll probably do it for me. laugh

My favorite tracks are both from the old Descartes edition of Formula De. They are Monza & Suzuka.

I haven't had one of the tracks from the new Formula D stuff capture my fancy as much yet, although I did enjoy Sebring & the New Hockenheim.

I figure out where to hit 6th gear on Monaco(depends if you need to pit). The last turn before the pits, try to exit in fourth gear. If already in fourth, stay in fourth. Next turn shift into 5th and more often than not you will hit the first corner after the pit lane. From there you can shift into 6th and easily reach turn 2. I tend to pass those who have not set up for 6th gear and move up 2 place if I'm behind.

As far as favorite track, I've been playing the free Formula De game downloadable from http://formulede.online.free.fr/ to get my fix, and so far Buenos-Ares is my favorite. You will hit 6th a couple time in a lap but you may need to skip some gears to slow down too.

I've been trying to buy Suzuka & Melbourne, and Buenos Aires & Barcelona, but both are very expensive. Buenos Aires is my favourite real-life track, too.

I am getting Estoril and Interlagos soon though, and I happen to know that Estoril has one of the longest straights in Formula De/Formula D. It's around 70 spaces long from the Parabolica (or however you spell it!). Excited doesn't explain it! laugh

Some boards do not allow you to roll the 6th gear dice frequently. If you really want to roll it though, you can try the double straight varient. This extents all the straights by requiring you to use 2 movement to move 1 space. Odd values are optional +1 space after rounding down. For example, when you roll a 15 in fifth gear you move either 7 or 8 spaces in the straight. You have normal movement in the corners, so you may use more gearboxes.

Sebring will allow you to roll 6th gear dice along the right hand side straight with ease.

My absolute favorite track is Zandvoort 1 & 2 combined. Most players roll 6th gear five times in a row around the 2nd track.

This has provoked me to remember where I was actually going with my post! (HA!) laugh

I was looking forward to buying the Monza track, because just like the real Formula One Circuit, it is very fast-paced, and a nice basic track for Formula D players. Shame it's rare and expensive though. Most Formula De tracks are, as I pointed out before.

And Ryan, I haven't seen anything on Zandvoort 1 & 2 though, I fancy a look though. I thought Zandvoort was just one track. I know it's old, but I never knew of any refurbishment or anything - unless I'm missing something and it's fictional, this "2nd bit"...

Formula De tracks 1/2 were Monaco and Zandvoort 1. Formula De tracks 3/4 were Zandvoort 2 and Belgium. You can still pick them up on ebay.

Here is a recent picture of the track. That's me stuffing my face in the background.

Should you ever find yourself in Northern Florida, be sure to contact me and we'll get some racers together!

It looks like the new India track will allow for 2 or 3 rolls of the blue die 3rd, 4th and final straights!

Ahhh nice, that looks pretty smart that does.

And I hate to say it, but I can't see myself being anywhere near Northern Florida any time soon, as I'm in the UK

But yeah, the new India track is looking very promising! It's just a shame the older Formula De tracks are so hard to get hold of ...

Well, the offer is there if you ever get tired of the English winter weather. We are two hours from Disneyland, which usually draws international visitors. There are a few board game conventions nearby as well, so you need to plan your vacation around those

Actually buying old boards 1 & 2 will be a lot cheaper than a plane ticket to the US, so you can always use that to justify buying them. Plus, you get the Spa track! It is also one of my favorites.

Brilliant board, and a brilliant track. That thing will never lose it's legendary status, until some idiot comes along and decides Eau Rouge is too dangerous ...

(Don't forget guys - I've got my 1994 Custom Championship Race Reports coming soon! laugh)
