I heard that Asmodee was supposed to release new tracks this month, but I have not heard a thing.

Whats up?

There was an update to Asmodee's release schedule and the new circuit was pushed to Q1 '13, iirc.

Bad news, but...patience is a virtue or something.
I, for one, can't wait!

I will be able to put a picture of the 2 maps soon.

Edit: Forgot to say, there's a reprint of the base game coming, that's a very good news if we want to see more tracks coming.

Thanks for the news Stefan. Is there any chance the english rules will get updated to be more clear? There is confusion over the weather rules and hydroplaning in the corners when it is a wet track.

I wonder if they listen to petitions/votes for new tracks?

I am extremely keen for the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit to be printed:

I think the Australian Track would be excellent because it has an interesting, `organic' shape with an aspect ratio that is close to the board size (and will therefore occupy the majority of the board without trying to angle in a long/slender track along the diagonal). Also, Albert Lake would make the board look particularly attractive, much like Monaco and Spanish Grand Prix tracks that have already been printed.

Four other tracks that I also think would make interesting tracks for both their challenge and aesthetics include

cheers,
John

John, those tracks were already published in the 90's as Formula De. The Suzuka/Melbourne track is on ebay right now.

Stefan has mentioned many times that they are not re-printing old tracks.

I wonder if there is any chance to do the new Circuit Of The Americas track in Austin. The first race on it is in two weeks! It's a nice track with elevations and great curves.

oh... That is disappointing to hear.

Since they've essentially reprinted the Monaco track:

with updated coolness, I figured they would be keen to refresh some others, too. =/

Thanks for letting me know, though.

CotA is the one that my friends and I hope for most in a new expansion. With its turns, it should be a brilliant track for Formula D. Some sort of hybrid between the old Suzuka and the new Hockenheim boards.

CotA is a very long and narrow track. I'm not sure how well it would fit on a rectangular board. Try it for yourself - get a picture of it, fit it onto a rectangle and then try to thicken the lanes enough for Formula D. I don't think it will work very well.

I would love an updated Melbourne track. There must be legal issues that are barring them from reprinting older tracks perhaps?

That's a very good point. I wonder if it would fit if it were positioned more diagonally on the board?

Here's a mockup I quickly did just now:

The dotted line is the trace of the /outside/ of the real track; the solid lines are offset from that line in such a way that they're approximately the width of the Indian grand prix track. (The approximate width is actually reasonably accurate, I feel--I estimated the width by fitting a rectangle to the Indian GP circuit.)

Note that the dotted line is the outside of the real track, and therefore the silhouette of my mockup isn't the same. I had to enlarge the outer rim by 3/8 of the track width so the track didn't self-intersect at the chicanes. However, the dotted line is /exactly/ the exterior of the real track---it wasn't adjusted to accommodate for the chicane, for example, so I suspect that a designer could take some liberties to adjust the chicane and approve the overall look.

It's a pity that the board is flat. The real 3Dness of the track is awesome =)

In other, unrelated news: if they're not keen to reprint existing tracks, then please consider making the Adelaide Street circuit Grand Prix (the discontinued one, not the modified one that they use now for the v8 races...):

It's a street circuit, but it (or was) real and hasn't been printed before. =)

cheers,
John

It isn't a legal issue, just a money issue. They don't make a ton of money on the track packs; the audience for them is pretty limited. Right now, there are some people who have only played Formula D buying track packs, along with plenty of Formula De old-timers. If they start reprinting old tracks, no matter how cool they are, you are going to be cutting into your already limited audience by selling something that a bunch of people already have. Given that there are plenty of circuits in the world that haven't been done yet, why reprint when you can print new stuff that everyone will want?

Because I was being selfish in wanting an updated copy of my home city's track without any silly shrimps (from "the barbie") or people riding kangaroos on it...

Boromir! (...Kermit, too...)
Adelaide does pretty well in the polls that pop up from time to time on "Which circuit would you like to see printed"?
It certainly does look like an intriguing track and I'd certainly purchase it. Although...I'd purchase any and all that they released...so...that's not exactly an endorsement to hoot about! laugh

Skayen! Great job on fitting the CotA! I would think that would be good enough for all of us fiends who want new circuits to race on!

I'd like to See Brands Hatch as a track - it's a great shape for the board, and should be interesting to race on.

Re: Any word on the new tracks?
Jyllandsringen has been made as a fan made track.
You can download a printable pdf here.

The extra curve section, shown on the picture from the wiki page has not been used since the mid seventies.

It is fun to race it in the rain, have never tried it while dry

Edit: picture inserted
