Hi all, my gaming group is actually 6p consistently. I haven't played d2 yet so cant say directly but just wondering if anyone with experience can share any insight into making the game 6 players - so 1 DM and 5 characters. I guess its mostly giving the DM more monsters/options so he doesn't get steamrolled?

Main changes based on p count that can't be trivially expanded (like starting OL hand size) seem to be sizes of the groups, and number of search token.

The latter are preplaced on the map, so you'll have to come up with placements for 2 extra ones. Maybe each side gets to place one more as they see fit?

Monster groups will be an issue, since they're already at max plastic vs 4p. Maybe toss an additional open group in? Might be a bit much. Maybe keep this group at a smaller group limit.

Make one of the minion monsters in each group a master monster (you'll still run into figure limits, but you could just mark one of the minions somehow).

You only need 1 extra search token not two (since you will have 5 players (plus OL)).

Oh, you'll also need to scale up the lieutenants - probably just look at the changes from 2-3-4 and try to continue the pattern. Note that it seems that higher player counts tend to make the game easier for the players, so probably fudge on the side of OL advantage.

I'd say this wouldn't be enough. Seeing as the heroes seem to have it easier with higher player counts anyway, I'd say add one extra master to each monster group *in addition* to the monsters already required for four heroes.

I'm also going to try with 6 players on Saturday, but since the Hero players are not that experienced (and since I've won all 6 quests as the OL with 2p) I'm just going to try to use the rule that the OL can move 1 monster group after 3 heroes have activated and the last monster groups after the 2 last heroes have activated.

If that doesn't work out I was thinking about drawing 2 cards per turn instead of 1, since I don't like the idea of proxies (or more master minions).

Seriously, take one player to the Dark Side with you. Overlording with two brains is quite fun. In D1Ed, at least.

That's another idea. Let the sixth player play as the lieutenant. Maybe even give him/her a class.

I tried with 2 players as the overlord. That worked fine, but it's best for the more "complex" scenarios where the overlord normally has a lot to take into consideration.

Re: Modifications to make 6p version?
Will be playing the intro and was thinking of making Mauler playable by giving him a class and letting my wife run it. Will need to look at the class options. I want the Mauler to be interesting to play without totally unbalancing the scenario. See how it goes.
