Xmas Eve in Goblin-Town
On the morning of December Twenty-Fourth, in anticipation viewing a matinee of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, my daughter and I played a game of Summoner Wars, where she used the base deck for Cave Goblins, and I played the Guild Dwarves. She played first, and I took only a four-card hand in order to give her a handicap.

The Cave Goblins rushed like crazy, giving the Dwarves ample opportunity to play both Magic Drains and both Reinforcement events. A lucky Slinger drew first summoner blood against Oldin, after running around the line of Defenders. The Goblins kept up the press until both players' decks were low.

Gror was the first Dwarf champion on the map, and he used two Heroic Feats to make short work of Mook and Blarf ... and a Defender ... and the two central Dwarf walls! Still, it was looking bad for the Goblins at this point. Their draw pile was exhausted, their magic was low, and they were down to Sneeks alone against Oldin's full complement of champions plus a Spearman.

But Sneeks summoned a Berserker at a forward wall, and the new Goblin quickly landed an attack against Oldin, before Sneeks Slied his way into position for a direct confrontation with the Dwarf summoner.

Thorkur and Baldar found themselves with the measly Berserker at hand, and far from the summoner duel. Gror couldn't attack Sneeks without wounding Oldin! Thorkur dispatched the Berserker, but only the last Spearman was anywhere near being able to come to Oldin's aid. Alas, not near enough.

In the end a wounded Oldin had to defend himself against a fresh Sneeks, and he was hopelessly outmatched. It was a loss for the Dwarves, and a victory for the only Goblin who mattered!
