Anyone else get a copy with a warped board. I can't even get it to sit flat on a table

My board didn't like to lie flat either, so maybe there is a quality-control problem here. It isn't really awful (like Mission: Red Planet). You can play the game OK.

I haven't really worked at it, but maybe it can be straightened out. Last time I played on the rug, so I didn't notice it so much!

My board is pretty bad too--which is very frustrating when I am used to top quality products from Days of Wonder.

Yep, mine's pretty bad too. Enough that I think I'm going to have to send it back or something. How's Days of Wonder on this kind of stuff? I got my game as a Christmas present so I don't have any recourse through the shop where it was bought and anyway I think it was probably bought online through Amazon.

Days of Wonder is typically very good about this, but the board is a pretty big item (in the past, they have replaced individual cards for me).

Maybe they'll ask for the individual code number on your rulebook (to verify that you really have the game and to ensure that you don't ask for multiple replacements). Maybe they'll ask you to return the old board (but that would be a hassle).

Let us know how it works out!

Couldn't agree more. Exactly like my situation too...

Mine isn't exactly unplayable either, and I haven't had trains fall yet, but it was definately harder than it should be to get them to stand properly - and it doesn't look good with a warped board. I'm gonna shoot them a message and see what happens, at least. I'd definately like to get this replaced, albeit I wouldn't be mad if they don't - it'll just keep me from buying new DoW products before I'm sure stuff like this is OK. Definately holding out for Ticket to Ride: Deutchland for now, at least.

Very strange. Me and my friend have between us every Ticket to Ride/Zug um Zug board now in print, except Märklin but including Deutschland. They have all been perfect - until Heart of Africa. I can't stop wondering what on Earth has gone wrong in the production!

I thought they might ask you for the registration code as well... But then I discovered that my rulebook doesn't even have one. I'll go right on and assume that they have no way to verify that you actually have the game, then. Too bad for them, really.

I got the original Switzerland expansion (before it was on the back of India), and I had a lot of trouble getting that board to lie flat also. I think that it got better over time.

I don't think that it was that the board was warped - more that it wasn't cut well, so it couldn't quite open all the way.

That was also the one where the Destination Tickets weren't uniformly cut, and DoW offered a new set of cards to people who needed one.

I just looked at all my sets with boards, and here is what I found for country of production (listed in the order that I bought the games):
- Europe: Germany
- Nordic: Germany
- Switzerland: China
- Märklin: Germany
- USA: China (it was a later edition)
- Asia: Germany
- India: Germany
- Africa: China

I had trouble only with ones made in China. Now that I think about it, even my USA board doesn't quite lie flat, but it wasn't so bad that I remembered it right away.

That makes sense. I know that they can save some money by Chinese production but it may not pay off in the long run. Anyway, I contacted DoW and it looks like they're going to send a replacement board. I'll let you know when I get it.

We noticed our new board is warped as well.

I'll send them a note for a replacement (and hopefully get it) but it seems like a number of these went out. When putting it away and we noticed that it doesn't fit nicely into the box either. Let's hope that this doesn't continue as the series continues.

My copy is also warped but not so much that it would really disturb the playing experience. Hopefully they do the manufacturing more carefully in map 4.

Ours is warped as well. We also have an original Switzerland, and the Africa is much worse than that. You can even see it's warped when it's folded up.

I just received an email from DOW saying they realize this is a big problem with this issue and are expecting new boards in a week and will send me one out.
However they also asked me to send the warped board back to them at no cost so they can show the manufacturers. They supplied me with a UPS number.
I told them I will send it back when the new board arrives, just in case it is also warped.

Re: Warped game board
We've done some further investigation and according to our warehouse there was some moisture in the shipping container which was thought to have only impacted a few cases of the Africa expansion. However it may have caused some additional board warping. It doesn't seem to be a general problem with the manufacturing run, as we've only had 2 reports of warped boards in Europe and their copies came from the same print run as those in the US.

We will of course replace any warped boards. If it is only slightly warped, we suggest you first try laying it out on a flat surface with some heavy books on to for a day or two to see if that resolves the issue. If not, contact our customer service with the problem and your address and we'll take care of you. Here is the customer service link - http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/contact/pieces/?tab=boardgame...

BTW, our expansions don't include registration codes, only complete games do, so we trust that only legitimate owners who are experiencing the problem will request a replacement.

Thanks,

Mark - Days of Wonder

We played our new copy today which i received yesterday and it is warped. I've tried a gentle bend to try and straighten and i'll see how it fares over the next few days.

My parents have a Chinese print TTR and i have the original German edition and my board is considerably thicker. All these new Chinese boards appear overly thin and prone to warping.

We received our replacement board yesterday. It's still warped, almost as bad as the original board. Has anyone received a replacement board that is not warped?

DoW took care of this for me as I sent my warped board in and received a replacement at no cost what-so-ever. DoW ROCKS!

We're back to playing!

I got mine today, which is warped in a different way, I think. 1/6th of the board is hit pretty bad, while the others are what I would normally find acceptable. While the original board was only warped around the bendable parts of the board, this one is extremely warped in the midle of the down-right 1/6th.

I kind of want to ask for another replacement, but damn, that's just gonna make me feel like a douche. I think this is playable, anyway. Oh well, we'll see.

Don't feel that way, I got my replacement board, and it was still warped, pulled it out again, and it had gotten worse, we had to put items under parts of the board for it to be somewhat flat--it was horrible. I emailed them again, and they send a 3rd one--got it yesterday.
