181 boardgame Plays over the year, lead by 9 plays for Perudo, 6 for Elder Sign and King of Tokyo, and 5 each for Downfall of Pompeii, Hey! That's My Fish and Incan Gold. 4 plays of Bohnanza, and 3 each of Dixit Odyssey, Stone Age (with and without style), Airlines Europe, Alien Frontiers, Connect Four, For Sale, Forbidden Island, Formula Motor Racing, Frank's Zoo and Slide 5.

Exactly 101 different games played, so most of the rest for the year were only played once. Some deserved that, but many others didn't. I want to play more new games, and more old games, too!

By contrast I managed 16 sessions of the Pathfinder RPG and ran 2 sessions of Call of Cthulhu.

I logged 228 plays of 95 different games, 53 being new.

Lead, as always, by Dominion with 13 plays (though that number decreases every year).

Other games with 5+ plays for me were

* Gauntlet of Fools x10 - A great little filler game. The luck is fairly high, but it's always fun.
* Flash Point: Fire Rescue x8 - Finally, a worthy competitor for Pandemic. Most of these were 2-player sessions.
* Commands & Colors: Ancients x7 - Not my favourite wargame, but it's certainly a quick one (my last two battles were only 30 minutes each). I particularly enjoyed playing battles from Commands & Colors: Ancients Expansion Pack #4 – Imperial Rome.
* Escape: The Curse of the Temple x7 - A great fun realtime coop dice-rolling game. I'm glad I got this off Kickstarter with all the extra stuff.
* Friday x6 - Solo deck-building. Never actually managed to win this though.
* The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game x6 - Not sure why it took me six games of this to realise I didn't like it very much.
* Outpost x6 - I'm really glad this game was reprinted, it quickly shot up to be one of my favourites.
* Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage x5 - Another classic game, one of my favourite wargames.
* Infidel x5 - Another wargame, this one's looks like it's old-school with little cardboard counters on a fairly plain paper hex map (it's hard to make the Holy Land look pretty), but it's actually fairly quick and simple - 2-3 hours for a battle.
* Power Grid x5 - A constant favourite of mine.
* Ticket to Ride x5 - Mostly the new Legendary Asia map.
* Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) x4 - Snuck this in as I have to mention how much better it is than the 1st edition. They've retained the fun tactical monster-bashing and done away with all the grind.
* Suburbia x2 - Snuck this in too as I'm really impressed by it. A 90-minute tile-laying city-building game with different buildings available each game.

I also got to try last year's big hits, Eclipse and Mage Knight Board Game and sadly didn't really care for either of them.

Outta curiousity and for methodology purposes, do you count 2 plays of the same game on the same day, as 2 plays, or 1?

How does it compare to the original Dune?

I've never played Dune but all through Rex I kept linking the races and powers back to Dune's story.

What I liked most about Rex was aligning two or three players together changed the game in a big way but then another alliance phase came up and things could change all over again.

My fear with Rex, (having not played it), is that it'll ruin all my great memories of playing Dune. I'm not a fan of the new theme, but obviously some things can't be helped!

Thanks! That sounds like a plan. I'm still waiting for the official call up from the boss, but I'll touch base once I have some details. thumbsup

Personally, I log that as 2 plays. (I count games played, not game days.)

Depends on the game. Pit is the best example I can think of right now of a game I'll simply record as one play even if it's played a number of times. That's partly because where I play it now there isn't a cumulative score to determine winner, it's just various hands for the experience.
Everything else is a new game, even if I don't record details for each game. Lupus in Tabula is a good example of that, I play a couple of games most Monday nights and record each but don't usually list details of who was playing or what role they had.

Related problem when you play something like Descent 2.0 where quests take roughly 2 hours, 3 quests for 6 hrs feels a lot more like 3 plays rather than 1 really long play.

Scuppered! I got the word today that I'm no longer going to Christchurch. Apparently the guy who I was going to meet down there is coming up to Tauranga instead. shake

One day, though...

I had a pretty weak year of gaming I must admit.
I don't keep track of my plays, but I think I played the most of -

The Resistance
lost Cities
Engarde
Samurai
Heck Meck am Bratwurstmeck
Catacombs
London

aaand thats about it for the multiple plays (not counting Wellycon)

for iOS I hammered Battleline and lost cities pretty hard. I think I must have clocked up 300-400 plays of battleline - just AI play. Tichu and disc-drivin' also got heavy play, same with the free dominion app.
Ascension was mindless fun, and plays great on ipad.

If you haven't got spaceteam go get it now! awesome party game (its free)oh and while you're there go get Into the Dead (cheap shill moment)

I'm pretty disappointed with 2012 to be honest, although it might just be the turn my life has taken to all things work and responsibility orientated (what was I thinking!).

2011 I played 804 games, not all big heavy humdingers I'll admit, but I felt I was having a good time... 74 new games in 2011.

2012 was only a measly 355 games, and only 28 new games - I guess the rate of new games does drop over time, but its not like I'm getting the old games to the table as much either :/

Interestingly enough, checking out my friendless stats, Donald X is still our friend with only a slight drop - 148 plays in 2011, 126 plays in 2012.

Knizia was also still in the top 5, otherwise it was nearly a total change.
