I would love to get active in this community, but raising Geekgold is impossible. 30 per dollar value hahahah, yeah right.

Your program you use to load images doesn't even work half the time it makes me do them 1 to 4 at a time. I just wasted 2 hours of my night making 74 photos to only get one up. All that filling in data and your website timed-out twice. sigh......

Another batch I did, people voted "no," because of similar... I went through all 650 photos there's not one that was similar to my 14 set that I put up. Do people just hate certain games and vote negative? Is it because they are sick of seeing pictures for it?

And 1 gg for 1 photo is not bad if the loading thing worked properly, and people on writing seem to vote quantity and length over quality; it's a joke. 2.7gg is the highest I received for an article that took me over an hour to write. I make more in the real world writing. In the forums, people say they want images with the reviews? Don't you want conciseness and accuracy, so you are not wasting your time reading rhetoric?

What are other's take on getting geek gold--I have put so many hours into this website the last few days I have gotten pretty much nothing out of it for my work. Does the baggeekgold system need to be re-evaluated? I wanted to be part of this community, but I have a life outside and can't put hours into this site everyday.

Any suggestions how to become active without GeekGold?bag

P.S. sorry for the rant--I am so frustrated from this site. A site built for a common public audience should not be this frustrating for someone who lives this stuff.

For what it's worth, it took me 3 months to earn enough for an avatar.

What is it that you can't do without GeekGold? The only thing I can think of is tip people who contribute stuff you like.

GeekGold is mostly irrelevant. No need to focus on it. Being involved is not a job to be worked at. Involvement is mostly reading and commenting when you have something to say. As to photos, I'd focus on ones of you and your friends playing games (1 or 2 at a time).

Whenever I'm doing the GeekMod and someone uploads a ton of photos, I am definitely more picky with them than someone who just uploads one or two. It drives me nuts when someone goes through and takes a picture of every single component in a game and expects to get them all up on the site. It's just too much.

Anyway... As has been said, really the best way to get involved in the community is to just treat it as a community. Talk with people, comment on games you like, or posts you think are interesting. Don't worry about the geekgold, it comes with time and there's really not a whole lot to use it on after you get your avatar and a few microbadges anyway, unless you plan on using it to get rid of the ads...

I mostly ignore gg. It was nice to get the avatar and microbadges, but I would be just as active without them. I'm fortunate to be able to afford to "subscribe" to the site, and doing so gave me enough gg for the basics. I have also written a couple reviews, created a couple popular geeklists, etc., which have generated a little gg. For me, "participating" is mostly in replying to other people's posts, and secondarily in posting my own (text) content.

I agree that the mods often get things wrong, whether allowing content they shouldn't, or denying content they should.

Anyway, I see someone has gifted 50 gg to you. Welcome to the generous community that is BGG.

I dont know why you have the idea that to be active you need to have GG? Is there a reason you want it? Avatar? microbadges? you have enough now from the generosity of the community for an avatar and a few m/b's [ and you can only wear 5 at a time].The one with the most GG does not win!

I have found in my short time here nothing but friendliness, goodwill, generosity and an atmosphere of camaraderie.

I feel a little protective of BGG as I have found it a great place to hang out. Please try again with an open mind after the tips you have received you might see things a little differently.

I'm sorry that you're feeling frustrated. Before uploading more images, it may be worth reviewing the BGG Image Guidelines here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/Image_Guidelines

The relevant parts here are

"Before uploading an image, consider whether it is likely to be approved. Make sure that the image is properly cropped and rotated, and that the quality is at least comparable to other images in the database. Submitting multiple similar images at once may result in all images being rejected; instead try choosing the best image or images from a set to upload."

and

"Images may be rejected for any of the following reasons:
...Too similar: Image is too similar to other images uploaded by the same users"

Rather than uploading a group of 14, perhaps pick the best image or images. The rest can go in your user gallery here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/images/user/553865/foofymonkey

If you want the images for a post, review, session report, etc., you can use the images in your user gallery the same as you would any other images, and they will be uploaded instantly, without waiting for geekmod.

Looks like 75+... Might as well grab a 30gg Avatar, if the notion tickles you

Yeah, I know how to find out how much I've got.

The point of my post was that GeekGold isn't anything worth worrying over to such an extent as the OP seems to be doing.

And, anyway, I'm saving mine to buy a GeekTropical GeekIsland for when I GeekRetire.

It never occurred to me that GG was a necessity to be active. But I did want to pimp out my profile with an avatar and some MBs when I was new. So, since I still enjoyed it at the time, I just played a lot of Ticket To Ride. Win some games and the next thing you know you'll have enough to get an avi. Once I had one, I pretty much stopped paying attention to GG at all.

I don't know if I've ever gotten as much as 2.7 GG for a single post. I may have. But, again, it's just a little perk. The point of being active is to be part of the community. And this is a terrific community. I mostly lurked apart from auctions for a long time. But the more time I spend actually engaging with people here, the more I like it.

Just read stuff that interests you, comment when you have a contribution to make, make friends and influence people, and don't worry about GG. Oh, and follow the image submission advice above.

I didn't think the point of BGG was to acquire geek gold, thumbs or middle fingers for that matter...it certainly helps commercialize the site (so it can support itself) but I don't think the founders expect geek gold to pay people for all of their content. Gotta love the fact that you post a rant about BGG and get rewarded with (at present) 72! geekgold!

If I were to say, "Patrick Rothfuss is my master now", would that make Joss Whedon my overlord?

Avatar? What's that?
