I have a few things I would like printed for me on a 3d printer and I was looking for someone who has one that might be willing to look over the files and tell me what something like this would cost.
Thanks
Vincent

You can upload your file(s) to Shapeways.com and see how much the print will cost using a variety of materials.

Ouch, a plastic deckbox on shapeways is $65 lol a bit cost prohibitive for me.

Yeah, that seems quite expensive. A deck box, you say? That doesn't sound like something that would require a lof material. 65 USD is approx. 21 cubic centimeters (1.3 cubic inches) of Fine Detail Plastic. Are you sure your model is hollow in the right places?

Lol no, I have the design someone else made and was going to let me use. His looks hollow and it looked hollow on the shapeways site.

Well, scaling could be another issue. Sometimes certain file formats are being scaled incorrectly, so try and check the size Shapeways has calculated for you. (It will be stated in both cm and inches just below the rendering of your model.)

Its hollow in all the right spots and its all the correct dimensions, I guess shapeways is just expensive.

Staples apparently are advertising 3D printing. If not, I work for a company that has a makerbot but have no idea on how they price jobs. I can inquire if you like if the Staples thing doesn't work out.

Right now staples is only 3d Printing in 2 countries overseas. I did a ton of research on the staples option. Please look into your work as an option for me.

He has a 3d printer that he's offered advise and such on. He may be amiable to printing some stuff for you. He's in the UK but it may turn out to be more cost effective for you.

Re: Looking for someone with a 3D printer
Try your local universities or libraries. They often don't advertise it but may have 3D printers on campus. I work at a university in Houston and I know of 4 different locations on campus that offer 3D printing, and I expect the same at other institutions.

Good luck!

I asked a question in a specific boardgame thread pertaining to 3d printing. For those of you who know the game Forbidden Bridge you also know that almost everyone needs a number of railings for the game. I was wondering if it were possible to send somebody a railing and they could duplicate it with a 3d printer. That way they could produce enough replacement pieces for all thoe who needed them. Who could I talk to about doing this?

I'm not sure which part you're talking about, but it's probably cheaper to find the parts on eBay.

the pieces everyone seems to need are railings. Theyre pretty small snd there are supposed to be 7 in a complete game. Problem is its rare to find anyome selling railings and because theyre so small they got lost easily nobody isselling a complete set. If i had a pic i would post it for people to see.

I think I see them in this picture.

Since they are so thin and small, I imagine that they would be hard to make with an extrusion 3D printer.

It might be easier to mold and cast them.

well if you want one, you can make the part at www.tinkercad.com

and then just send me the .stl file and i can print a few up as a test.

or you can wait until later this year when this comes out (I ordered one)
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-matterform-3d-scanner/...
and then I should be able to replicate it fairly easy if i have an original.
