Did you play four player with PARTNERS or every man for himself? There's too much chaos in a free-for-all.

Every man for himself. Nobody suggested partners, I had no idea it was an accepted way to play.

Fiasco perhaps? They mentioned it's an RPG.

I assumed this is the one Scott was referring to.

Agreed, I just don't know why it didn't show up when I searched.

same reason it didn't when I searched the first time. I wasn't looking in the RPG section.

Great episode guys, along with the great title. I think Kickstarter projects will continue to develop and evolve. There are a lot of people using it for different things (a band needing a new tour van, for example); board games may be one of the biggest industry niches on it, save art and music projects.

What would our listeners think of regular kick starter segments on the show? Or even 5-10 minute stand alone kick-starter episodes sprinkled into the feed.

These KS episodes would not replace or interfere with normal On Board Games episodes.

When you sign up for a Kickstarter project (which is really just a fancy dolled-up preorder system)

That is how most of the kickstarter game publishers are using it, but that's not how the kickstarter model originated or was intended to be used.

You are not (as Scott implies) investing in the company, or making a charitable donation

In fact, that IS how the kickstarter model originated and was intended to be used.

I should add that it's a terrible pre-order system, on a financial basis. You're losing 8-10% of your backers investment money right off the bat. That's several thousands of dollars in many cases. The benefit is a centralized hub of activity, but by most accounts, finding individual projects on kickstarter is difficult at the best of times. It's bad enough that publishers will direct you to their own site first, and give you a link to their kickstarter project from there. Publishers could cut out at least one middleman by hosting their own pre-order system on their own website. They're directing customers there first, anyway.

Re: OBG 069: Suck on My Big Deck Building Game
Just listened to episode 69.

Scott, you mentioned only playing Magic: the Gathering as a 2 player in episode 69. Our game group loves M:tG in 5 player draft format. (We buy ~cheap repacks for drafting.)

Each player in the 5p is trying to kill the two players across from him/her; making his/her direct neighbors into sometimes allies. M:tG becomes a great social game as you are bluffing your targets, negotiating with your neighbors and trying to figure out if you need to backstab an ally so that s/he doesn't win. Table talk is almost a requirement...

We often refer to this as prismatic; but I believe that’s the official name for constructed w/ 250 card deck.

EDIT: Our play format most closely resembles the Star format (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic:_The_Gathering_formats#St...). Because of the improbability of drafting only your own color from 3 packs, we don't stick to the color requirements.
