No-ship Math Trade at the World Boardgaming Championships (WBC) [Lancaster, Pennsylvania]
This is a no-shipping math trade held at the World Boardgaming Championships (WBC) convention in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Current Status: Closed to new submissions. Open for want lists.

The thread you are reading is for discussion of the math trade, including complete rules. Please subscribe to this thread so you can be notified of any changes that may occur.
This geeklist is for posting games you might want to trade.
This geeklist is for posting games you would like to see from others in the trade.

Timeline (all times Eastern Time):

Open for posting games: Saturday, June 8, 8:00 am
Closed for posting games/Open for want list submissions: Saturday, July 6, 8:00 am (yes, that is in the morning)
Closed for want list submissions: Saturday, July 13, 10:00 pm
Results will be posted shortly thereafter.

Since the deadline for registering games in the WBC Auction Store is July 20, you will have about a week after the trade ends to post them in the auction store, if you so choose.

The actual trade will take place at WBC at 4:00 pm on Saturday August 3. If you cannot make this time, please make arrangements with the people you are trading with to meet at another time. Note that in most cases the transfer of games takes just a few minutes if everyone is there, so your prompt attendance is greatly appreciated. If you or your proxy are not present and you do not make other arrangements, you will be responsible for all shipping costs to send and receive the games you traded.

Rules:

1. You must subscribe to this thread to be informed of changes.

2. The Online Want List Generator (OLWLG) will be used for this trade since it reduces errors and makes generating want lists so much easier. However I will also accept manual submissions by geekmail if you cannot use the OLWLG. One of the benefits of using the OLWLG is that it makes adding games from your BGG "Trade List" very easy. I am available to answer questions and there are guides on how to use it here on the geek. Please remember to tip JeffyJeff some GG for his support.

3. Board games, Video Games, RPG items, and geek gold are allowed. Gift certificates and other geeky stuff like DVD sets are not allowed for this trade. Use the game item Outside the Scope of BGG for geekgold, and include an alternate title such as "+altname+250 geek gold-altname-" in the description. These special tags make it easier to handle in the OLWLG.

4. Please describe your items as fully as possible, including publisher, edition, language, completeness and condition of the game. It is NOT enough to include a picture and say "as pictured," because this does not provide enough information for your fellow traders. Err on the side of too much information. Remember that you want people to pick your items, and the more information they have the more likely they will put your items on their want lists. But don't write a book for each game. Long disclaimers are not pleasant to read either.

5. All items in an offering are to be listed using either the GAMEID formatting (Power Grid) or a link to the game's page ( http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/2651). Do NOT include links to other games in your entry unless you are actually including them as a sweetener, as this is displayed in a misleading manner by the OLWLG. All items in a single geeklist item will trade as a single unit for all items in another geeklist item.

6. In the unlikely case that you've been reported as a bad trader, you should contact me before you participate.

7. Please do not delete items or sweeteners once you have listed them. You can always submit a blank want list for an entry if you've traded it away before the deadline.

8. Only errors by the moderator will invalidate the results. Use of the OLWLG will hopefully reduce any such errors. In the case of problems after the results are posted, they will at most invalidate only the affected trade chain(s) and not the entire result set. In addition if a problem can be resolved by the most directly affected party or parties, then that will be the preferred course of action.

9. Software Used: TradeMaximizer 1.4 with duplicate protection. SEED=74951, ITERATIONS=30, METRIC=USERS-TRADING

10. If you are not able to meet at the designated trade time, please list the days you are planning on attending. This will help others plan their want lists.

If you are new to math trades, check out the following links for a primer on how they work. Feel free to ask specific questions after you have a sense of what they are about. To get started, just add the games that you want to trade as items in this geeklist, one game per item. If you want to offer multiple games as one item (trading it as a bundle) you should add all of the game links to the same geeklist item.

These two cover the same material, but in different learning styles:

Math Trades for Dummies

If you need to learn about the online want list generator (OLWLG):

I guess I should have done more research! But this is probably the first time a math trade has been done as an official event (it will be in the program and everything).

Yes, we will be using the OLWLG. I haven't had a chance to fill in the details yet, but the WBC organizers wanted to publish links so I gave them some blank places which will be filled in the next week or so. The actual trade starts June 8. Subscribe to the discussion thread to be notified of this.

Is it rude to leave my current posts on the trade list, or should I delete them and re-enter them on June 8th?

You can leave them there for now. I will be posting full rules later this week so if you find that your items do not comply you can either remove them or revise them. (Don't worry my rules will not be onerous; I just may require a little more in the way of description so people are sure of what they are getting.)

The trade is now open! I apologize for being a bit late, but real life sometimes gets in the way. I'm still filling in some of the details on the trade and request list, and I'll make an announcement on the math trade announcement threads, and add it to the OLWLG. Please feel free to start posting games.

If you want to add games to the trade list from your "for trade" collection or a previous math trade before the OLWLG has the trade, use this link:

I meant to say that all types of games and geekgold are allowed, and that gift certificates and other geeky stuff (like DVDs) are not allowed. Sorry about the confusion. I have fixed the header.

Any reason why GCs aren't allowed?

I should be there but if I am it's cause I'm working a booth, so while I'll be easy to find, I won't be able to make the designated meet up time. When I ran the WBC MT before, I had everyone meet me at the Z-Man booth and found that it's really easy to find me so it should be no problem though.

The convention directors do not feel like it's wise to allow gift certificates, at least this year. So we will not ruffle any feathers so they will allow us to do this in future years.

I guess we'll see if that makes sense. The last Math Trade run at WBC had 515 items (and GCs were allowed). I never considered any of the Math Trades to be "WBC-sanctioned."

Yes, you should use the game entry "Outside the scope of Boardgamegeek" and use the "+altname+ title -altname-" syntax within your entry to label your entry within the OLWLG. Then also link your games in the entry.

Sorry to bother you or if this is a question that I should be able to find the answer for. This is my first time attempting a math trade. I have added items and am following instructions to pick items wanted. Should I see the check boxes for what game I would part with for a game that I want yet or does that appear when the time to add games has expired? I see games that I want added to the want list but no check boxes. Thanks in advance.

Russ

Thanks for adding your games. They do not automatically show up in the OLWLG until I do a re-sync. I haven't been doing them regularly since there have been very few entries made. I will make a point to re-sync at least daily from now on if new entries are added. Once I re-sync the OLWLG you will see your games show up in the columns in step 4 of the OLWLG, with the games you might want to receive in the rows, so you can check the intersections of the trades you are willing to make. Please let me know (preferably through the discussion thread) if you still are having trouble.

I've closed game submissions and opened want list submissions. The deadline for submitting want lists is a week from now, Saturday July 13, 10:00 pm Eastern. I have left comments enabled on the original geeklist so if you need to clarify particular items or post when you will be at the convention please do so there. Thanks to everyone who is participating.

Some of you new to math trades may be wondering what to do next in the trade. We use an external website tool called the OnLine Want List Generator (OLWLG) found at http://bgg.activityclub.org/olwlg/ . You should visit that website and follow the instructions to tie your computer to your BGG account. Once you have obtained a login you can follow the links to our particular math trade, where you will be able to see a list all on one page the games offered in this particular trade by everyone. You can peruse this list and select the ones you are interested in in the first column. Then once you are done with this you enter Step 4 of the OLWLG to see a grid of all your games on top and all the games you are interested in on the left and then you check the intersection of all trades you are willing to accept. Please respond in this thread if you need more specific help, since there are many math trade veterans here and if I am not available you can still get help.

So I got these two warnings on the olwgl, and I have no clue how to fix these issues.
Yes, there are instructions, but they are very confusing.
I am slow, so I need step by step instructions.

1. Warning! 1 of your offerings has/have geeklist comments to which you have not replied to.

2. Warning! Missing altname tag
Warning! 1 of your offerings are using game id's that are generic and do not have an altname OLWLG tag (or the tag was not added correctly to be recognized). Click here for help on the altname tag. You can click on each of the following links to visit the geeklist item and edit those items:
Outside the Scope of BGG (gamesclubofmd)

thanks, Keith

The first warning means someone posted a comment on the geeklist itself attached to your item. Might be a question so the OLWLG pesters you to go respond. Won't actually mess anything up or not let you complete.

The second means you offered something that is a generic item (such as "outside the scope of BGG") and in really big trades there may be 10+ items with the same official listing in the geeklist. OLWLG recognizes a little bit of code you put in the description of your item (the altname tag) and changes the name that is displayed in the OLWLG to that name you have given it. So when you or anyone else goes to make your list instead of seeing "outside the scope" you see "lawn darts" or "tank of piranha" and it's easier to keep track of things. Not fixing it won't mess anything up other than be a sort of pain in the ass for people to keep track of what's what, though in a trade this size it won't be much of a big deal.
