Northern New England BGG Meetup - October 19th, Brunswick, Maine
Announcing the 3rd annual, northern New England BGG user meet-up, Saturday, October 19, 2013 in Brunswick, Maine! This event is a free-to-attend, day long event!

We’ve reserved the large community room at the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick for this day long event. Bring your favorite strategy, war and family board games or try something new from our lending library. Come for one game or stay for the day.

The meetup will feature: two morning sessions, two afternoon sessions with a break in the middle for lunch, and a board game swap meet. There will also be five unscheduled tables for BYOBG (bring your own board game) fun.

The meetup is free (no charge). Children age 13 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

MORE INFO:
Check this post often for updates or visit our event web site at...

DAY SCHEDULE:
9:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Open Tables (5 unscheduled tables, first come, first serve)
9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Session 1 (5 reserved tables, 1 designer table, registration required)
11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Session 2 (5 reserved tables, registration required)
1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Break for lunch / Swap Meet View the swap meet geeklist here
2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Session 3 (5 reserved tables, registration required)
4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Session 4 (5 reserved tables, registration required)

SESSION SCHEDULE:
Signup and registration, along with the schedule of hosted games on the reserved tables, are now online at our Warhorn event page.

http://warhorn.net/nne-bgg-meetup/

HOSTING A GAME:
If you are interested in hosting a board game at one of the reserved tables please register on the Warhorn event page and include the name of the game(s), along with the publisher and edition information in the "Notes" field of your registration application. You may also email the information to the event coordinator from the link provided on the Warhorn event page.

NEW THIS YEAR:
Members of the Maine Historical Wargamers Association (http://www.facebook.com/mainewargamershq) will be on hand with a special Civil War game display to commemorate the recent 150th anniversary of Gettysburg.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
You are not required to register or reserve a table during a session to attend the event. You may elect to chance the availability of the open tables. However, registration is free and scheduling a session guarantees you a table for you to host a game or a seat at a scheduled game (as availability permits). You may reserve two morning or two evening sessions back-to-back if table availability permits.

There is no time limit on the open tables but they are reserved for board game use only. Again, the open tables are available on a first come, first served basis.

Lunch is not provided. Please bring your lunch or, if you wish, many of Brunswick’s fine dining establishments are readily available downtown (within walking distance from the library).

Please Note: Food and drink are not permitted at the game tables.

DIRECTIONS:
Directions to the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick can be found on the Curtis Memorial Library website: http://www.curtislibrary.com/about-us/directions/. We will be holding the event in the community room which has a separate entrance to the left of the main library entrance.

PARKING:
Please do not park in the library’s (very small) parking lot. There is plenty of street-side, public parking on the streets that surround the library. Also, additional parking may be found downtown and at the Hannaford parking lot nearby (all within walking distance).

Previous Meet-ups:
Boardgamers drove in from as far as two hours away, including game groups from Portsmouth, New Hampshire (Sages of the RPG) and Bangor, Maine (Bangor Area Gamers Guild). A special thanks to Jeremy from Crossroad Games for setting up a mini boardgame store at the event. There was also a nice write-up in the Sun Journal about the inaugural event from two years ago... http://www.sunjournal.com/bplus/story/1073691.

Setup prior to the doors opening at 9 a.m.

The Bangor Area Gamers Guild (BAGG) arrives early and break out Settlers of America: Trails to Rails.

Still hot from GenCon... Wayne Moulton (of the Sages of the RPG group) demos Quarriors.

The first session is underway and Wizard's Quest (1979, Avalon Hill) hits the table.

Members of the Maine Historical Wargaming Association double up on tables and layout two scenarios of GMT's Fighting Formations: Grossdeutschland Motorized Infantry Division.

Mascot "Klaus", on loan from the Bangor Area Gamers Guild (BAGG), guarding the programs and giving autographs.

Session 3 gets under way after the lunch break.

A courteous host sets up Goa... But where are the rest of the players?

There they are! Turns out everyone in this game of Power Grid had only played the game once or twice prior to the meetup. 3 hours later....

Hope to see you at the 3rd Annual Northern New England BGG Meet-up this October!

Anyone bring back something new from GenCon? If so, now is the time to get your games on the schedule before the reserved tables are filled. Also, check out the new additions to Swap Meet Geeklist.

Is anyone attending familiar with Space Empires: 4X? I've been interesting in giving that a try.

Yes! I've only played it solo thus far, but I'm loving the game. I'll bring it!

I own it as well, but everyone gets scared off when I mention the bookkeeping aspect. If you bring it, I'll totally give it a go.

This is assuming that Mark doesn't browbeat me into hosting a Twilight Imperium game, of course.

I'm in if you can run it during the last time slot (which I'm considering extending by an hour or so if I get the ok).

I'll give it a go too - is it a 4+ game?

I'd be up for a shorter 4x game as well, as I worry that Twilight Imperium could drag a bit.

Otherwise I'm willing to bring/judge a game if there's interest:

City of Chaos (probably would take 2 sessions)
Space Alert
Tammany Hall

I also have a few games in playtesting now, but not everyone wants to be a guinea pig...

I think a 3 hour game slot should work. I'll put it on the warhorn site for the last slot. The designer suggests 4p learning games to be played in teams of two to speed it up, which I'd do in order to get rules and a game in time.

I would love to play/judge a game of Dominant Species; I brought it out for my game group last night and it's just too long for our 3 hour game night.

That said I think a 3-4 player game with new players would fit in 2 game slots at the meetup. Interested?

I also am playtesting a card game called Xenophobia that is like The Resistance meets the original Alien movie. It handles up to eight players, but I never get to play it with more than 5 because my game group isn't big enough. I'm not sure if unpublished games should be on reserved tables but if there's interest I could get a game going on one of the free tables.

You're welcome to schedule Dominant Species across any pair of slots. Be sure to note that the 4th time slot is one hour longer than the previous three.

Looking to see if I'll be free that weekend...
Question is if the Kids Soccer will run that late into Oct. May only be free for the afternoon.

Willing to bring and run...
Legendary: Marvel Deckbuilding game (with Dark City expansion)[5 player]
Robinson Crusoe, Adventure on the Cursed Island [4 player]

If I'm free I'll be signing up soon.

I recently had the chance to play Robinson Crusoe. Fun game! Either would go over well on the schedule.

Kids soccer wraps up at 11am...I'll be down for the last two sessions. Started the signup process to judge/play both co-op games.

Your submissions, Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game and Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island, are now on the schedule. I deducted a seat from each because I assumed you wanted to play as well.

Thanks Mark, yes I would like to play the games I'm bringing.

Slot #3 (2:30pm - 4:30pm): Legendary : Marvel Deck Building game with Dark City Expansion, 5 players...should be able to get two games in the time slot. Intro game for folks to learn the basics and an more difficult 2nd game where players will select one of the heroes in the pool of heroes to play with.

Slot #4 (4:30pm - 7:30pm): Robinson Crusoe: Adventure on the Cursed Island. 4 Players. Most challenging and immersive co-op game I have ever played.

Is it ok to sign up for just 1-2 sessions of Arab Isreali Wars? It appears to be running all day.

Shouldn't be a problem. Billy is very flexible and there's a good chance someone will want to hop in and take your place for the other sessions.

Hey, Mainers! This is me in Massachusetts. I'm looking forward to attending the meet-up again. Had a blast up there last year and I'm sure I will again this time.

At Mark's request, I'm planning to host TTR: Asia in one slot. We'll decide on the day which flavor (Legendary Asia or Team Asia) to play.

I've signed up for Yedo, and beyond that, I'm looking for games!

I'd like to play either of these two that I just bought and don't know how to play. Any willing teachers and players?
Tigris & Euphrates
Power Struggle

Here are 10 other games that I don't own and have played infrequently or never, but would be interested in:
Takenoko
Hanabi
Archipelago - Derek volunteered this one already
Kingsburg
Trajan
Bora Bora
Mice and Mystics - Enough time for this?
El Grande
Goa
Keyflower

Finally, feel free to check out my collection and request something. The stuff I buy tends to be mainstream and slightly behind the curve, but if there's interest, I'm happy to help out.
