Advice for US player
Hi Adam!

We have played the game yesterday. Loved it. Lost it. In turn turn 5, it was the short game. My opponent (best mate) has followed every step from the rulebook for the openning of the japanese (turn 2) (Message from him: thx for the recepie) . So after that I wasn`t in a good position. And lost the game 3 turns later.
Would You be able to write some advices to the US player like Mr. Tetsuya Nakamura did for the japanese player?

Thx, londonercsecse

It is hard to give specific advice in the opening for the US since they are reacting to the Japanese player...

How did the game play out? If you did the opening in the game, it isn't too aggressive so you put the Japanese in a good position to go for a knockout but you aren't forcing it...

What happened in your game after the opening moves by the IJN on turn two?

Hi!

Thx.
Turn 2: he attacked/invaded Rangoon,Singapore,Surabaya. Captured:Lae, Manila.
Turn 3: captured:Hollandia, Attu,Leyte, Surabaya, couldn`t capture Singapore, Rangoon.
Turn 4:lost 1 VP because of Singapure. Captured it in this turn. Rabaul, Guadalcanal.
Turn 5: Pt Moresby, Espirito Santo Fiji, cut of the supply line (+ 2VP)
20VP.

We have fought 2 major naval battles (First Lae in his turn). In the first I`ve lost 2 DD. 2 CA damaged, surface combat, Tokyo Express/Long Lance effect. Withdraw. Second battle my turn.He has lost 2CA, 2DD. I had 1 BB damaged, lost 1 DD. Coudn`t capture the target in land battle.
At the end of turn 5 he had 1 Oil pont only. Uses 3 DD for convy escort duty. Deploys part of his fleet in Truk to intercept.
On the british side no real progress. Standstill, battle every turn for Rangoon.

My mistakes: Left my fleet in Pearl Harbor, let him to move without any treat nearby Australia.

1 more q:

Is it posseible to put a TF without CV in the Carrier Task Forces box on battleboard?
Example: I don`t want to fight a surface battle, only do my airstrike on his naval vessels,s to avoid a Tokyo Express/Long Lance I would put that TF there to hit and run. If he comes to intercept with it. Cancel the invasion, just airstrike.
I hope it is not stupid to ask.

thx again for your help!

Sounds like the problem...you need to keep a USN presence in the South Pacific or the IJN will just walk over you...just try it again and with this knowledge and let me know what happens...it is hard for the US in the first few turns as you have to cover several avenues of advance...but you can...

Nope - only TFs with CVs are CV TFs.

You can always decline a sea battle by not entering the sea control box...

Never be afraid to ask. I am very happy to help..and you may have a rule mistake from you CV question above...

Feel free to follow up with more...

Hi!

Thank You for the quick response. Do You ever sleep?:)
I hope I`m ok with that rule to understand. I just had an idea and coudn`t figure it out.
We`been playing games for 20 years, and rule number 1 is: If something is not banned, than You can do it. (I might missed something in the rulebook.)
So, if I undertsand correctly: I can do an airstrike with my CV TF, and don`t enter the Sea Control box with my surface combat TF, and withdraw.

Is there any games done on FitS by You avaliable on the net?

Anyway we gonna play it again tonight.

here is a game that is being played on ACTS that I found - it might help you a bit...

http://acts.warhorsesim.com/dynamic/journal.asp?id=18330

Just hit view all and you can see the entire game up to turn 12.

I just need to be careful here as you are using game terms to describe a more general thing...withdrawal is something you do from the sea control box...

Let me see if I can run through a little example for you...

The US has a CV TF with a CV and a DD and a Bombardment TF of 2 CAs and 2 DDs

The IJN has a Bombardment TF of 1 CA and 1 DD.

This is after sub attacks so you are on the battleboard.

The US launches air strikes. After that, the non-air supremacy/superiority player puts ships in the sea control box. In the above, it has to be the IJN. If they don't put any ships in there, the US sees that and can just put in a DD (from the bombardment TF) and grab sea control...

You are done with this battle now and the IJN ships arrive in the next Japanese reinforcement phase. So you can avoid sea to sea combat if you want...

How did I do? Does this address what you were looking for? In the above, the IJN didn't want to fight a sea battle but wanted to force the US to expend resources to cover the possibilty.

BTw, my advice is to play out the ACTs game with your opponent for a few turns and note how the game is played...there might be mistakes in the rules there but it will be little stuff I think...make notes of anything you don't follow and just ask me here about them....

So give the learn one day more and after that, you are ready to play for blood.

:)

Thx.

Got it. Can AVOID sea to sea combat after airstrike. Withdrawing is for the actual ships already in "Sea Control" box.
Is this correct?

The problem is with my understanding, not with the rules.

I will check up your game!

Hello!

Just finished another game. 15hrs. We are mad:D
I was the US again. Started from turn 1.
Airstrike (all CV)on Pearl wasn`t big fun for japanese player, only 1 DD, 1 BB sunk, 2 other ships damaged. 1 hit each.
I`ve lost my only carrier in turn 1 by submarnie attack. (Always 2DD to escort) So, Ranger to rescue...
At turn 3 japanese had 13 VP-s, captured Rabaul, Wake, Duch Harbor. Stopped. Could recapture Singapore in turn 4. That was big problem for japanese for 3 turns to got it back.
From turn 6 US in attack, pushing back IJN an all front. With a good movement I`ve invaded Truk, Palau at the middle of game. Japan neded 3 turns to wipe out the 2 weak Land Units.
Slowly eaten up her merchantment pool. On the British side forward-backward. Japan could capture Calcutta in turn 10, (left it open deliberately to get the British Fleet earlier.:laugh )Got it(Calcutta) back same turn.
Finished the game at turn 15, capturing Yokosuka, -1 VP.
Realy enjoyed it. The system is very playable and game is accurate on all way. Logistic and the balance is elegant.
Thanks for it Adam!
