XPSDude, I thank you for the excellent explanation. I understand now what needed to be done. But I fail to see why these things needed to be done. Too many unintuitive leaps for my tired brain.

I have those words as well. My ideas of a Hamiltonian path and rearranging the pieces have been shot down.

I'm guessing "directions" refers to the arrows in the puzzle, but I haven't solved it yet.

I don't know about the tea, but the Shakespeare is related to getting one of the words.

I think the Shakespeare remark is referencing the havoc clue. I have no idea what the tea references are about though.

Also- someone on Tanga thread gave the salt "don't forget about the lonely gray square". I replied that mine wasn't lonely (because there is a letter in it)... then someone who has solved it said:

How did you fill in the puzzle without using the arrows? Actually I think that might be the way to the solution, but I can't see how.

Use the easiest answers for the clues. Then go back and take a close look at the clues themselves.

Keep in mind that the clue for the flower reads "thorn bearing flowers."
Usually, if a clue is plural, then so is the answer.
