Greetings gamers!

Are there any Oxford gamers around here? I know there are RPG and CCG gamer people in Oxford, but I haven't heard much about boardgamers. The reason I'm asking is that I have plans to be moving to Oxford somewhere next year, and it would be nice to either join an existing group, or possibly start up a completely new one.

Hi Jacco, there's a group of around 20 of us who used to meet in Milton Keynes, but now meet in Leighton Buzzard, on every 2nd Saturday of the month. Leighton Buzzard is about an hour away from Oxford by car. If you'd like more information drop me a line.

Hi,

I live in Oxford and we have the University Board Games Society which meets twice a week. I'm sure you would be welcome even if you won't be a member of the university.

There are at least three Oxford groups: a university connected one that meets (I think) on Wednesdays and Sundays, a "heavier" games club that meets on Tuesday nights, and one that may be predominantly miniatures based that meets on Mondays in the city centre. There's a game shop called The Gameskeeper on Cowley Road with contact details for all three: the owners will probably be more than happy to give you the details if you give them a call. At the moment I don't go to any of them, because I'm rubbish and tend to laze around the house after work rather than get on with the serious business of gaming. For anybody who lives in the general area of Oxford: I live in Witney and (despite having not posted my collection on this site yet) I would be more than up for setting up a West Oxfordshire group. A few examples of what I can supply: Caylus, Tigris, Antike, Through the Desert, Reef Encounter, Torres, Samurai, all GIPF games, but no wargames or miniatures games.

Thanks for the replies folks!

I'm well aware of the Gameskeeper - I bought my first set of Settlers there whilst visiting my girlfriend (who is also the reason for me moving). I'll get in touch once I know more about the actual relocation plans.

Also announcing for the first time on the geek (I think, unless one of my fellow members has done so previously) Didcot Games Club (DGC). Didcot Games Club runs fortnightly, with the next date being this Friday 10th November.

The club started as a group of friends, regularly meeting to play games at people's houses. In 2005 the club then decided to moved to the football club and has grown into a thriving group of 16 + people attending each session. We have people who travel from Reading and Oxford to attend.

We play various board and card games, including those all homes have (Monopoly, Uno, Scrabble, Jenga), to the more complex german type games such as Carcassonne, Ticket to ride, Settlers of catan and shadows over camelot. Each session always brings forth something new to play! Especially with people bring new games play that they brought from Essen.

We also play several different CCG's including Magic the gathering at a casual level.

More details of the club can be found at www.didcotgamesclub.moonfruit.com

give me a shout when you get in town and i can introduce you to the club
steve
