This thread made me curious (http://boardgamegeek.com/article/15055564#15055564) so I decided to see what Google could find.

It showed me this:
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_npm.asp?eidm=240&epmi...

Nothing much yet, the site is under construction but I guess we can expect an announcement shortly.

Tip of the hat to the FFG guy who saw this thread and ran through the hall to the webguy to yell at him to take it down.

My guess for the standard 4 races that will be included are:

Space Marines (Duh! Most likely represented by the Smurfs aka Ultras)
Eldar (Again, a no-brainer)
Orks (Another no-brainer)
Chaos OR Tyranids (Not sure which but I'm leaning Chaos because I think 'Nids would easily be able to push sales of a Deluxe Expansion box all by themselves)

First Deluxe Expansion - Probably Tyranids/Necron combo

Second Deluxe Expansion - Tau & friends (Kroot, etc...) ???

OR

A Deluxe Expansion that showcases various Space Marine chapters, maybe??

From briefly looking at the now-removed website, looks like it will include:

Space Marines - on the box art and a sample card.
Tau - image of a card showing a Tau gun drone.
Orks - image of a card.
Elder - box art.

Any sense of whether it was a reskinned version of Warhammer: Invasion or a totally separate game?

I would have no problems with it if it WAS a re-skinned version of W:I. That's one of the better card game systems out there. (IMHO)

I wouldn't mind, either. W:I is a great game.

FFG would definitely take some heat for that: Shutting down an established game with a deep card base, only to resurrect the same mechanics for a 40k version so people essentially pay twice for the same game with a different thematic coat of paint.

It is interesting that the stink is barely off of the dead corpse of Warhammer:Invasion and already we have this 40k game popping up in the dark corners of the internet.

Is W:I actually dead? I know they're not continuing to expand the game, but they're still reprinting sets as needed, aren't they? With so many expansions and a large card pool, I would argue there's plenty of life still in the game. I can see why some might be upset, but other fans of W:I might like seeing FFG take the system in a new direction, essentially "expanding" the game in a fresh way.

That said, I would surprised if they did this. I suspect it'll be a different system altogether, but I guess we'll see.

Dead in terms of new content (which, for an LCG format that relies on new content to keep interest levels up, is pretty dead,) but currently still in-print. We will see how long that lasts, especially if a new 40k LCG is around the corner.

I see your point. However, I would counter that as long as FFG keeps it in print, it will continue to draw new players, albeit at a slower pace. On the other hand, I wonder if one of the things that keeps some potential players from jumping into an LCG as far along as W:I is the feeling that they can never catch up. Knowing there's an end-point could actually make some more willing to invest in a game like that, especially if FFG packaged the packs in each cycle together as deluxe expansions. Then again, I could be totally wrong about all this.

(Apologies to OP--this probably belongs in a separate thread.)

CONQUEST
THE CARD GAME

[image of three cards, some tokens and the box]

A GAME OF CONFLICT IN THE GRIM FUTURE FOR 2 PLAYERS

The cards were "Captain Cato Sicarius", "Gun Drones" and the last card I couldn't read (I'm not into WH40k stuff so I have no idea what it could have been) but it was something like "Bad Dog"/"Bad Boy" or something of the likes.

The layout of Captain Sicarius' card was a bit different from the other two. The other two looked like classic LCG layout with an image on the top of the card and what was most likely a cost in the upper left corner (2 for both cards) and a card type listed below it. Under the image was a text box with rules text for the card and on the left hand side of the box two number were printed. The Gun Drones was 2 and 2, the Bad Dog? was 1 and 4. The cards also had a faction symbol.

Captain Sicarius' card had an icon printed instead of a cost in the top left corner (matching the faction symbol of the other cards). The art covered the entire left half of the card and the text box was on the right half. It did still have the two numbers printed in the same location as the other cards and was 2 and 6.

From the looks of the cards I would guess that the game is completely different from Warhammer:Invasion.

My guess is that this is Eric Lang's "Project Nova" (as he called one of his secret projects on his website / twitter).

That looks more like Dark Eldar to me than normal Eldar on the box cover. That would give roughly two "evil" factions (Orks and Dark Eldar) and two "good" factions (Ultramarines and Tau).
