Ticket to Ride: Marklin Edition
My First DoW game is Memoir '44 and the components quality really impress me so much that I decided to get another game from DoW...my choice goes to Ticket to Ride, after all I need a gateway game to introduce more people to wonderful world of boardgames
After reading some of the reviews here in BGG, I choose the latest in the line of TTR version: the Marklin edition

Components
The game consists of:
star 1 Big beautiful board of German map
star lots of plastic trains in 5 colors (45 trains for each color) and 3 replacements for each colors
star lots of train cards, some destination cards (long and short route)
star some plastic passengers 3 for each color
star stackable scoring marker 1 for each color
star 1 small thick cardboard for bonus scoring
star lots of small merchandise tokens
star a CD about marklin

wow the quality is of usual fantastic quality by DoW ! The big board is absolutely looks gorgeous on the table ! and the train cards are beautiful as each card describes a different illustration of Marklin's train products.

Gameplay
I believe most of you will already know the way this game works...
well I'll still give a brief explanation:

the player with the highest point wins the game ninja
each player will have their own destination cards, if by the end of the game he can complete his destination ticket, it will give him bonus points. but if he cannot complete the ticket, it will subtract his score.

This time the map is filled with lots of merchandise tokens in each of the cities. Bigger cities have merchandise of more value than the smaller one. The eastern part of the map have longer colored routes, while the western part have mostly short Grey routes.

during the turn can do one of these things:
star you play the route by playing cards from your hand. eg: Play 4 red cards to take the route with 4 red trains. you can also put one of your passenger in one of the cities connected by the route you're playing.
star you can draw 2 train cards (or only 1 locomotive)
star draw 4 destination tickets (you must keep 1)
star move your passenger along your routes, picking up any merchandise along until it stops (and removed). You can move through other player route by playing a passenger card.

Conclusion
well the additional merchandise & passenger rules bring new tension and greater depth to the famous TTR series. The new merchandise feature can bring a lots of points ! In one game I got a bonus of 63 points from merchandise tokens. Player can move his passenger early when the map still not filled with many trains or move it later to wait for longer track but usually the more you wait, the smaller the points you get as other player will rob most merchandise of greater value. Here, the timing is the key. This feature really adds a great depth to the series !

Now players are given the choice to score points, do they optimize their passengers to get most of their points from the merchandise, or should they choose to concentrate of completing more and more tickets.
No more bonus to those who have the longest route, but now the bonus points goes to a player with most completed destination tickets.

Well with simple rules & short play time, this game have become favorite in my family & my non-gaming friends. For me this is a must have game in my collection !

I rate TTR marklin:
