Are you able to have units both in a region and in a stronghold?

In other words:
1) can you put units into a stronghold when it is not under attack?
2) can units be in a stronghold AND in the region?
3) If so... would the number of units in the stronghold count with the 10 unit limit?

The rules seem to imply that you can have units in the stronghold and in the region ).

Quote:
p.14 - "If an embattled Region invaded by a succesfull attacker contains an enemy Stronghold, and that Stonghold contains enemy units, the stronghold becomes besieged."

Maybe i'm just misreading this though and it is only talking about the units that just retreated into the stronghold.

What do you think?

The only way for there to be 15 units in a region, is if 5 of them are inside the stronghold, and 10 in the surrounding region. They stronghold guys must be hostile to the region guys. If the region guys wander off, the stronghold guys immediately pop out into the region. If the region guys are killed in combat by a rescue army, the stronghold guys are going to pop out by the end of the action, so it would behoove the rescuers not to march in so many units that they'll have to remove due overstacking.

Just to make this crystal clear: you can never have more than 10 friendly units in a region under any circumstances. The stronghold itself only contains units if 5 or fewer retreat inside from a field battle in that region (and note that they can retreat before the dice are rolled).

Unless you are being besieged, you do not have units in a stronghold -- they wait outside.

Once they have retreated, there can be 5 inside the walls, and 10 enemy units camped outside.

So units can go into a stronghold before the first attack? I was under the impression that you had to wait for the first round of combat to pass before retreating.

See page 14 of the rules:

ATTACKING A STRONGHOLD
When attacking an enemy defending a Region containing a Stronghold,
before every battle round, the defender must choose either to Fight a
Field Battle
or to Retreat into a Siege.

Notice "before". :)

a stronghold is only there for 5 or less units (not counting leaders) to retreat into in case of an attack on that region. So the answer is no.
