First impression
My wife and I decided to give Tal der Abenteur a try. It had been sitting in our shelf for a couple of days.

I wasn't particularly impressed with the components. The cards had a very cheap feel and the tokens and board itself are made of very thin card stock - similar to what you normally find in games like Candyland.

I was a little apprehensive, but after reading on faidutti's some interesting comments about the game, I was ready to give it a try.

Since I don't read German, I didn't get into the story and the translation provided didn't mention anything about it - not that I needed.

The object of the games boils down to collecting money and diamonds which can be traded for more money.

There is a lot of strategy in this game. You are allowed to move anyone of the pawns in order to arrive at the final destination. You are reawarded coins according to how many cards you have in your hand in the color of the pawn that reached the temple. You may also win additional coins or loose coins depending on the position of other pawns and the corresponding remaining cards in your hand.

We enjoyed the game very much. We liked the two player option although we have a couple of questions which I'll post shortly under the "rules" section.

Overall it was a good experience and I am sure it will get a lot of play in my house.

Our gameplay experience:

The game actually uses both sides of the board. In the first half, the competition was pretty tough with Martha and I with pretty much the same number of coins accumulated.

In the other side of the board, my wife got really luck turning a number of gems. Wow, I really underestimated those shiny little things. At the end of the game, she was able to trade them for 12 coins, winning the game.

Leo 40 points
Martha 43 points.
