Howdy folks. I'm moving to Edinburgh, Scotland in a couple of weeks. My wife is already there. We'd really like to meet some people to play games and just hang with! Please send me or Kristi (username: starbug) a message - or give us a call at (0131)466-9356. Our games are all being shipped and should arrive around the same time I do... you can browse our collections to see if there's anything you'd like to try and let us know, and check our ratings to see if we have similar tastes - but we are basically willing to play any game (except Pictionary) just for the socializing.

Thanks!

Matt

Hey Matt!

I am based in Fife - just north of Edinburgh. If you find a place called "Aberdour" on the map (go east along the northern edge of the Forth), that's where I am. Not far if you have a set of wheels.

I've just hooked up with a games group in Edinburgh two weeks ago who meet once a week. They play "Euro" games mostly, meet in someone's house. It's very informal, there's no club name or anything like that. Just a group a friends who share an interest in playing games. There's normally between 4 and 7 people show up. Because I don't run the group myself I won't post all their full details here, but I'll forward YOUR post on to them.

Some of us are planning to go across to Essen this year too.

I took a look at your game collection and had to smile at some of the cross-over with mine. Particularly the old Micro-game stuff. Man, I've been looking for a copy of Rivets for ages. I have Air-eaters, Awful green things, GEV and Ogre - etc. To be honest I tend to be a little more into group interaction games than wargames these days. Stuff like PR, Powergrid, El Grande - that kind of thing. Anyway, take a look at my collection. You'll see I've only just started.

Where abouts in the States are you from?

You're gonna love Scotland!

Richard

Well I am not there yet but seriously looking into relocating - my girlfriend lives in Edinburgh around the Orchard Brae area in the West End.

I get up there once a month or so at present (her job takes her down south a lot) but it is still possible we could hook up one weekend if you fancy. She is currenly only into Scrabble and puzzle-games at present but am trying to convert her via Carcassonne as an entry game!

There is an excellent wargames club in Edinburgh I have been to once - http://www.seswc.org.uk/ - but I see they have just moved (they used to meet in the RAF Club). There is quite alot of Warhammer and DBA/DBM going on but also board wargames and other board games.

Moreover if you read this before tomorrow, then check out CLAYMORE 2005, their annual convention held at Meadowbank Stadium TOMORROW Sat 6th August!

Good luck - let us know if you fancy a game one weekend and I'll let you know when I am next up (may be 2/4 Sept).

Hi Matt, glad to hear you've moved to Scotland's second city. I'm part of a group that plays in Glasgow every, usually a variety of stuff. Your more than welcome to come through if you can't find anything in the local area or if you want to have a look at Scotland's premier city.

Take care,
Gregor

We've only recently found BBG and only recently started collecting.

We're into Euro style games mostly and completely against RPG and CCG. About the closest we'll get to war games is things like TI3, A Game of Thrones and maybe War of the Ring (the first two are on our buy list, want to play the 3rd to see how it goes).

We're not obsessive about games, we see it as a great way to spend an afternoon socialising with friends (usually 4-5 of us), so don't take things too seriously.

We live in the leith area, and have a flat (Totally non smoking) with a table that can take largish games (170cm by about 120cm I think) and sit 6 people.

However, we've just adopted a very timid cat from Cat Protection so aren't having large numbers of people around until she settles in a bit more.

When the cat settles in, we wouldn't mind a few extra hands coming to join in. We usually play on Sundays betweem 2-7 (we go to the pub after that.)

Matt & Gill (are you still out there). I'd be keen to join you one Sunday. How has the cat settled in?

I am particularly keen on Settlers of Catan and have it. Other than that I like all sorts of board games, and cards like 500, Canasta, Rhummy.

Email if you're interested.

OK, lets get this ball rolling and go from virtual to real. Kristi and I have a good flat in a convenient nieghborhood, so we'll host a game. Are any of you allergic to cats?? Give us a call at 0131 466 9356 and let's start arranging a time. Weekends during the day are best for us.

We have a limited number of chairs, though, so unless you can bring your own, we can only take the first three callers

Hello. I have recently (July 2006) moves to Edinburgh, and I am looking for people to play German games with. Are any of the people who posted comments on here still around? I'd very much like to hear from you if you are.
Best wishes,
Richard

Here!
Actually, I've been here for a number of years now, but I am keen to meet and play Euro Games.
Own Die Macher and Indonesia both of which I would love to play, but open to all good games

I am based in Edinburgh North, willing to go to other places or sometimes host.

Hello! Very pleased to hear from you. I will be away for a week or so, but I hope we can play some games after I get back. I have a friend who is also keen to play strategy games, so that makes at least three.

Great!

Nick and I are meeting Tuesday evening 22 August to play a boardgame. We would like 1-3 people more to participate.

Here's your chance of meeting two great guys and perhaps learn a superb boardgame.

What I had in mind for this Tuesday:
Indonesia
Die Macher

But we are open to suggestions.

Meeting place: Edinburgh S/W or N. Private home, not at a pub.

PM me if you are interested.

Dear All,

Yes - Per and I have kicked off a euro-game thing and would welcome a few more players. Meeting at our homes but room for two games sessions simultaneously ultimately if we get enough interest.

Looking at possibly Monday or Tuesday next week for another go - PM Per or me if you are interested in joining us.

You can view our collections but possibilities that spring to mind other than what Per has already mentioned include:

Liberte
Lowenherz
Tigris & Euphrates
Princes of Florence

... I will keep my hard core wargames away from these sessions.

However, if there are any wargamers out there I am still trying separately to get my new copy of The Burning Blue to the table!

My boyfriend and I are moving to Edinburgh next week, to a flat near the Meadows and the Commonwealth Pool. We were very happy to discover this thread and hope we can join some of you (or have you over) for games. We will have a couple of the Catan games, Carcassonne and Bohnanza, but are quite happy to try new games. Is there a game shop somewhere in Edinburgh where we could try/buy new ones?

I have yet to visit but I think the only specialist game store in town in Black Lion Games http://black-lion.co.uk/?q= - alot of CCGs and RPGs but boardgames too I believe.

I am not of circulation for a couple of weeks now so PM Per for now. Provisionally the next session is my place - Tues 26th Sept and/or the following Monday. I will pick up where we are and any mail only on Mon 25th but you are very welcome to join us either or both dates. If I host I am South Morningside way...

Just to let the (Mid-Lothian) world know that our Monday night group is still going strong. Meeting at my place southside and now up to a regular four, a couple more gamers would always be welcome. We could even accomodate two tables if it comes to that eventually.

Recent games have included Liberte, Lowenherz, Carcassonne: The City and Louis XIV. Coming up shortly is probably Der Macher.

All welcome - PM me here for details.

The title probably doesn't suggest it but South East Scotland Wargames club as a good place to go for that regular board gaming fix.

We meet weekly on Thurday nights in the Royal Navy club down at the Cannonmills end of Broughton Street.(7pm-11pm).
Although it is primarily a tabletop figure wargames club there are usually at least two groups(10-14 people) playing boardgames or RPGs going on.

A flavour of my own usual group;

Currently popular:-
Struggle for Empires
Empires of the Ancient World
Carcassonne
Wings of War
History of the World
Frag

Occassonally:-

Caylus
Attila

Not for a while:-
Munchkin
Civilisation

Memoir 44 and Command & Colours are also widely played as are
traditional figure wargames (WRG ancients through to modern, Warhammer in all varieties and most other things you can name or even think of).

As it is held in a private club premises, the beer is cheaper than in a local pub and we have a number of 6x4 foot tables, felt cloths and other useful stuff stored there.

If you want come regularly there is a nominal fee (£15 per year to join the club) but new members are more than welcome to come along for a few weeks to see if they like it before they decide.
Check it out, you'll be made most welcome

Directions and more info can be found at http://www.seswc.org/
