Avalon Hill Version - Where'd the fun go?
When I had first heard of Cosmic Encounter, I heard about its unpredictability, the variety of cards and abilities. Then I played Cosmic Encounter Online. Where were the cards? Where were the moons? I looked at the Avalon Hill version, and it appeared to be almost exactly the same - only 8 "artifact" cards that were even vaguely close to what I had heard about.

Where did it all go? I'm still going to get the Avalon Hill version, because it's still fun, but what happened?

Ytterbium (#17481),

Do what I did....Photocopy the back of the
encounter deck and add then paste the flares on the back ,corresponding
to the races to be found here:
http://scv.bu.edu/~aarondf/cosmic/fg_flares.pdf

the rules for them are in the eon rules found
here:
http://www.deltos.com/reference/encounters/Cosmic.html

You might add some additional aliens (from expansions)
found here:
http://members.aol.com/palo0303/cosmic/intro.htm

You can also cut out cardboard and draw 5 planets on each
for 2 more players and use little stone tokens for these
players.

so then you'd have the avalon hill version with flares,
up to 6 players, and maybe some more aliens.
