The Earliest Gateway Game
Why would anyone review a game on the geek with no strategy, no rulebook, and a new winner chosen randomly about every five minutes? There is one simple reason: because it is a wonderfully fun game for kids that has gotten my young ones ready for more serious gaming in the future. For this reason, it comes highly recommended.

Setup time takes about 20 seconds or just enough time for you to place all of the pads on the floor. You then simply press the button and follow the leader's instructions. Gameplay is like a simplified version of Twister. Using peppy music, you are given instructions to go, fly, slither, crawl, jump, spin, or zoom to a pad of another color, shape or description. In this way the game is not mindless - your children need to discern their shapes, colors, and descriptions. Many people can stay on one pad, which decreases competition. As the game goes along and the kids are having fun, the announcer will say "FREEZE", and a pad is picked as the winner. After celebrating the victory with a funky dance or a bow, the next game begins.

As one who is attempting to get their kids to stay off of the TV and video games and to play with each other, this game has been great. My three year old asks for it all of the time, and I frequently pull it out when their friends are over or even after a more serious game with the older kids. There has many an evening where my wife and my four kids (the youngest in my arms) can be found doing a funky monkey dance together or groaning in unison when "try this Hullabaloo move" comes on.

I have never had a kid not like to play this a number of times. I have found this a great way to get my kids excited about the concept of playing a game you do not have to plug in.
All back-lit and evil-smoking like that guy on the X-Files.

Although batteries are required.

Nice review. I was planning on doing one for Hullabaloo, too. My kids adore it. I have a few complaints, but on the whole, it's a good game activity. If only something could keep those pads from sliding around on the carpet.

This game is a must-have for kids under ten, and deserves to be on the front page more often. Well built, both the sound effects and the volume are quite palatable for parents after a long day at work, and plenty of laughter is sure to ensue. Children can play unattended if need be.

Thanks for taking the time to review a good kid game.
