I put together a simple web-based scoreboard. Late in the game it can be useful for calculating which states you need to steal without all that "difficult" math....

Feel free to steal the code and improve it.

Good luck.

Nifty! thumbsup

*I* ain't gonna improve it, but it would be nice if it defaulted to the starting game set-up.

It would be really cool to be able to leave Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi blank if Unpledged Electors comes in to play.

Re: Web-based electoral vote scoreboard
Very cool! As said above, the default = start state would be a huge plus. Wow!

I set the default states. I thought about doing it originally, but things change so quickly with endorsements and such. I was looking at this tool for more of a post-debate playing aid when it's crunch time and for running "what-if" scenarios.

Thanks for the feedback!

It is very cool. I am thinking about your comment re: endorsements. It would be spectacular if there were a third column "no cubes" or some such name; these columns would default to score for the bias of the state without endorsements. Then you could add a single line at the bottom of each region: Endorsement (n) (k). If one were to click the Endosement box for N. or K. it would switch all the "no cubes" states over. Probably a lot of work (I have no clue as I know nothing about building stuff like this!) But it would be so, so, awesome!

If you're looking for feedback:

I'd like there to be a 'no-state' option for all the states, and have that be the default. I prefer to sum up the votes from East coast to West Coast, so the votes come in roughly as they do in the actual elections.

Just my 2 cents.

That sounds like more of a final tabulation tool. I look at this tool as more of a late-game "what-if" calculator.

Thanks for the suggestion.

the tool would be closer to perfect for me if it defaulted to starting positions, knew which candidate should win a zero cube state according to board color, had a toggle for zero cubes, understood endorsements, and finally was able to account for the unpledged electors card. that sounds like a mouthful, but please don't take it as a criticism. it's still excellent as-is. thanks for putting it together!

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think you're looking for something a little more complex than I originally set out to do. I just wanted a quick way to check when I flip a few states, how it would affect the outcome in the last couple turns.

IMHO, if you're twiddling with this on turn two, it's going to be a very long game. At that point, I just look at the board to get a general sense of things. I don't think it's important to have up-to-the-second scoring throughout the game. Again, that's just my opinion.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

I uploaded a version with several of the changes people had recommended.

I added Endorsements, Unpledged Electors, Sub totals by regions and modified the original position to include zero cube states.
I also reorganized the javascript so it is all in one file. This makes it simple to load in my laptop as a stand-alone file.

The link is:

I have used it in two games so far and it is a little tedious to keep it up to date as turns are played (For some reason setting from uncontrolled to controlled with no effect bothered me more than switching sides, I guess without the thrill or agony of gaining/losing votes it felt like work) but I thought it was worth it to get up to the moment scoring and the game results are right there at the end.

Thanks Sean for the orginal file and giving me permision to edit it!
