Scenario 3: Cavalry 6, Goblins 2
Rich was happy to play another game of Battlelore after our first close struggle, so we moved onto scenario #3: Burgos, Castile.

This scenario saw the first introduction of non-mediaeval elements, that is, the Goblins that were supporting the pennant banners of Don Pedro the Cruel, also known as Rich!

My primary advantage with the standard banners were three blue cavalry units, and stronger forces overall. Rich had greater mobility with his goblins, but against that had to work with terrain obstacles and the way that goblins were terrified of everything.

I'd also like to add that this was my first time playing this scenario - 9 previous games, and I'd never gotten past scenario #2 before. Eep!

As with the previous battle, this one was conducted on the flanks. Rich moved down his goblins on his right flank to engage my left flank infantry, whilst I moved up my cavalry on my right flank to engage his light infantry.

Terrain came into this battle a lot more than the previous one, with both our forces playing hide-and-seek over and around the hills and forests. My cavalry was able to move on a couple of occasions to cut off Rich's path of retreat, and thus become especially deadly. However, Rich was able to reform his lines each time, and was inflicting significant damage on my forward elements.

Unfortunately for Rich, he wasn't able to use his heavy cavalry to best use - and he really needed to if he wanted to eliminate my cavalry! Footsoldiers were at such a disadvantage, and his goblins, although eliminating on of my infantry units, weren't able to properly press the advantage.

I retreated my units that had taken damage, and so Rich wasn't gaining the banners he needed for victory. Rich's line broke again, with my cavalry pounding into the weak spot, and the extra attacks that gained was enough to eliminate enough of his forces to take the victory, 6 banners to 2.

I played that scenario just today, but with the goblins taking it 6 flags to 4. Very much fun had.
