4 brave knights valiantly sacrifice sword, armor and grail!
Despair had gripped the lands of Camelot. Picts and Saxons threatening to invade, the black knight terrorizing locals and the legend of Lancelot turned evil had turned what was once a beautiful land, hard and sour. Four galiant knights met in Camelot one dark and stormy eve to address the mounting evil.

"Alas, it is worse than we thought", said Arthur. "I have heard legend of Excalibur being found, only to see it disappearing into the marshes again. Also, rumors of the Grail have been surfacing, but they are grim. The Grail is locked deep in the woods and only those of pure and constant heart can ensure its retrieval from the mounting despair that threatens to overwhelm and capture it."

The fellow knights, Kay, Tristan and Palamades looked at each other, astonished at such news. "I shall fetch the grail!" stated Palamades, who without another word dashed from the room. The other knights, mulling their options, decided that the Saxons and Picts were the most serious threats currently facing Camelot and set out to defeat them.

Arthur lead troops on both flanks. The Saxons near defeat, he went to the woods to deal with the mounting Pict forces, only to find one of his most evil foes, Mordred leading the charge. It was desperate times, and Arthur sent his prayers to heaven (along with a grail card), and the answer returned to him almost instantly! With the power of God "in hand" Arthur slew his vile opponent and the borders of Camelot were both safe for the time being. That being said, the threats from within were mounting. Sir Kay had been allowing catapults to roam free throughout the kingdom, and Camelot was nearly under seige. Also, during his battle, Arthur recieved disturbing news that Lancelot had failed to be slain, and that the great sword Excalibur had been lost forever to the marsh.

Things were grim around the round table that evening. Suspicions were rampant that a traitor was among the 4 loyal knights, but none would venture to outright accuse, fearing that in these desperate times a false accusation would tear the round table asunder, leaving evil even more room to do its worst.

News that Morgan and Merlin had engaged in an epic duel had everyone worried as to the outcome. But they had forgotten how many tricks the old Magician had up his sleeve, and twice he sent back the evil Morgan to her lair. However, no matter how hard he tried, Merlin was unable to send back the Mists of Avalon that now engulfed the land, and nor was he able to stop the Dark Forest from sealing off the route to the grail. Indeed things had never seemed so grim.

An inspiration was needed. And just when it was thought none could be found, a dragon began to terrorize the kingdom, and everyone knows nothing inspires knights like a dragon! So off they went, Arthur, Tristan and Kay to slay the mighty beast, while Palamades decided to deal with the black knight. During the battle with the dragon, Arthur felt that Kay was only fighting with half his effort, and intended to accuse him as the traitor at the battles end. As the knights moved in for their final strike against the ancient winged reptile, the dragon leapt at them suddenly and had them all in line for a last vicious attack, that would certainly kill Arthur and perhaps the others as well. In this moment of desperation, sir Kay, in a move that could only be described as epic and astounding, added all the additional might that he could in a final blow, that barely slew the beast, but spared the lives of many a knight.

Sir Kay, now beyond suspicion, had Arthur worried who he had overlooked as the traitor to their cause. But he needn't worried, as Tristan had already uncovered the unworthy one! Sir Palamades had been working against them the entire time! It seemed impossible, but there he was, revealed in his full traitorous glory.

With the dragon vanquished and the traitor revealed the knights felt they had almost succeeded in vanquishing the evil that gripped the land. And so they waited in Camelot, destroying the odd catapult that threatened the castle, and sending knights to the grail, which although was beyond recovery could at least be held from the forces of evil. Soon the Saxons mounted a successful, but ultimately useless invasion, and the shroud of despair lifted from the lands of Camelot. The deeds of Arthur, Kay and Tristan would be sung for weeks to come... until evil threatened again...

Re: 4 brave knights valiantly sacrifice sword, armor and gra
Although I don't own it, I've probably played it about a dozen times. A friend in our group recently bought it having never played it before (hence why we played it last night), and he thought it was totally great, along with another Shadows newbie. If you have no one to explain it to you, the rules will seem a little daunting, but it's a great game and I'd highly recommend it.

You should! It's awesome, although it has it's problems. I don't own it myself, but have played a friend's copy several times, and plan to get it one of these days.
