Jourdonnais' text says that "he can 'draw!' when he is the target of a BANG!, and on a Heart he is missed". Same thing as a Barrel (right? At least that's what the instructions say). My question is what is meant by the phrase "the target of a BANG!".

The instructions say that the explosion symbol signifies "A BANG!", but there is also the BANG! card.

I can think of three ways to interpret it (from most strict to least strict):

(A) Jourdonnais/Barrel only "draws!" when shot with a BANG! card specifically.
(B) Jourdonnais/Barrel only "draws!" when targeted with any card with a BANG! symbol on it (for example, he is not the target of a Gatling card and wouldn't "draw!", but he is the target of a Pepperbox and therefore would "draw!").
(C) Jourdonnais/Barrel "draws!" when any card with a BANG! symbol shoots at him

So which of these is correct?

Thanks for clarifying.

I believe this one is correct. It is my impression that the rules always say "Bang card" when referring specifically to just that card.

Yep, I'd definitely go with C.

That makes sense, and seems to be correct. Thanks. :)

Re: Jourdonnais/Barrel & BANG!: When to Activate?
What about the PUNCH card then, does the Barrel works agains it?

In logic it shouldn't as the barrel is of little help against the fist.

See my other post on Punch, but I believe the answer to be B) - targetted Bang! effects only.
This includes Pepperbox and Punch, but excludes Gatling, which doesn't target Jourdonnais (or anybody else).

Can you tell I'm a Magic player? :D

We had this question arise recently - the rules state that a player may play a Missed! card whenever targeted with a Bang! card. Since the barrel has the Missed! symbol and Jourdonnais' card specifically says "Whenever he is the target of a Bang!" we interpreted that to mean that Missed! cards, Barrels, and Jourdonnais "draw!" for actual Bang! cards, NOT cards like pepperbox/punch/knife/etc. which have the Bang symbol on them.

I think a barrel would be more effective against a fist than against a bullet? :p

(I understand your point that an opponent would probably not try to punch through a barrel. )
