Can't Stop/Deal Or No Deal/DungeonQuest hybrid
(I have the Incan Gold edition)

It feels like Can't Stop.

It plays like Deal or No Deal.

Themed like a watered down Dungeon Quest.

And it works stupendously well.

Each turn you have the stupendous decision of:
Go or not.

That's it.

But this becomes a whopping psychological game of chicken while playing the odds.

Amazing. Simple and tense. A thing of beauty.

If the card is treasure, you split it to as many players, leaving remainders on the card. Less players continuing means more treasure per player, which means you want to keep exploring as long as possible.

Of course, hazards could make you lose everything. So you want to leave before losing it all.

Then theres the interesting "pick up the left over crap" rule. If you leave, you get to pick up the remainders that have been left behind. Of course, if a bunch of you leave, you split that too. And then the artifacts - worth 5 points, but only if you are the ONLY person to leave on that turn.

So, essentially, you want to stay the longest, or be the first to leave. Well, if you can leave alone. And hope people staying get trapped in a cave in.

Its a gambling game, pure and simple. Only, it ain't all that simple.

A 17 on a card is great if you're the only explorer. Not great if there's 4 of you. A 1 is a useless treasure, unless you're the only adventurer. The groans of dismay and squeals of delight on each card flip are hilarious.

A game is maybe 15 minutes of agonizing decisions.

Which is pretty much all anyone can ask for for a deck of cards with pretty pictures and a handful of nifty gems.

This is a wonderous, wonderous game for groups, great for non gamers (although the rules are not written in the clearest manner, and they should be taught the game).

Go get this game. That's really the bottom line. I think its the best little group playable filler I've seen.

Yep - great game.
Only problem is, it's only available thru one internet dealer. :(

And shipping's a bitch.

This is why you ask someone else to get it for you as a gift.

I'm a huge fan of Diamant. My gaming group had a get-together where the regular group brought along spouses & kids, and Diamant was played relentlessly by the group who "wasn't into those weird games". We had a blast!

This is no longer true. Boards and Bits has joined Funagain's "FRED" network and now carries Incan Gold. There are brick and mortar stores in that network as well, though I don't know how many of them carry it.

Although, if a game is good, does the cost really matter that much? Would you rather spend $50 on a game with a ton of bits that never gets played, or on a simple game that gets played over and over and over?

Not that this would ever run near $50, so I really can't see much in the way of a problem anyway.

We bought Diamant this Christmas, nominally for our 6.5 year old son but in the expectation that we adults will borrow it quite a lot too! Case in point being this year's New Year's Eve party where it was a wonderful hit with our gaming friends.

So far as our son goes it's also proving very successful - it's simple enough for kids to grasp and play and also a good ongoing maths exercise.

(I hunted around until I found a UK store (Shire games) that carried Diamant rather than Incan Gold as I just couldn't resist the cute meeples and the superior-looking treasure chests. Sad, but I doubt I'd be alone in this!)

It's a wonderful game that plays happily with anything between 2 and 8 players whilst being enjoyable for both kids and adults and both gamers and non-gamers.

Yeah, my son wants those Indy Meeples, but their just not readily available here in the US at a reasonable cost.

I ended up being patient, avoiding the (IMO overpriced) FunAgain version and recently picked up Diamant from TimeWellSpent for only ~$7 more in a free shipping order.

I'm glad I waited for some more American etailers to carry the original version.

Exactly what I did. The components and rubies/diamonds are definitely high-quality. Great filler game that everyone I have introduced it to has enjoyed immensly. Demands instant replays.
