Yet Another Successful evening with Portobello Market
Every second Tuesday my Father comes over to my house. So on Jan 22 we decided to play a few boardgames.

It's not something we do everytime he comes over, but it happens often enough. Generally for most of his 65 years he has been a monopoly, Game of Life boardgame type of person. That started to change last year.

He has now played such games as:
Carcassone (Liked it)
Hive (It was 'ok')
Ticket to Ride : Europe (Liked it)
Hey! That's my Fish! (Liked it)
and the latest one
Portobello Market (Liked it).

We started the evening off with a couple of quick games of Hey! That's my Fish! and then moved on to Portobello Market.

It was one of the few games that we have played that he asked to play it again and again. In fact, he got so into it, that he was late picking up my mother and her sister from Bingo!

By the time we hit the third game he was really starting to give me a run for my money and then he won on the fourth and final game of the evening.

All things said and done he told me that it was a game that probably even my mother would like and I should bring it over next time I came to their place. So I think b/w my G/F liking this game and now my father liking it, I've found a good family hit! It may even overtake TTR:E on the family playing list!

I'm still simply amazed at the lack of attention this one is getting on the geek. It's a good light strategy game that is family and newbie friendly. It truly is a diamond n the rough.

I agree completely. Its light, but there's plenty of strategy. I've only played a handful of times and I've enjoyed every time through. Games of this nature don't usually get much love here. Not because they're not good, but more because hardcore gamers overlook them.

I've thought about PM for awhile and your comments make me want to finally get it. My father is 84 and can't play enough of Ticket to Ride: U.S. (and 1910). Be sure to play this with your father. I got the pc version for my father, too, and he plays at least 2-3 times a day, and this has been going on for 2 years. We even had a weekly Thursday night on-line TtR game going with siblings and Dad but after some schedule conflicts this went away.

My Dad also likes TransAmerica a lot.

I'm looking forward to getting Portobello Market and playing with him.
