World of Warcraft Miniatures Game » Forums » General
Thoughts from the NY Toy Fair demo
The Alliance Distribution booth had some samples of the upcoming WoW miniatures game. These are my observations.

The game is played on a hex grid (which you can see in the photos). The goal is the acquisition of victory points. The points you need are based on the Honor Point total of the force that you bring to the table. The larger, more powerful the force, the more points you need to win. You gain victory points by laying the smack down on your opponents (victory points are equal to their honor points) or by occupying specific locations on the board.

The game system is "tick" based. If you've ever played Exalted or Scion from White Wolf games then you have an idea of what I'm talking about. When you activate a character each of the actions that you might take have a time-cost (or tick) associated with it. So, if you activate on tick 1 and your action takes 4 ticks then you won't be able to activate that character again until tick 5. Any special ability cards that you use during your turn will tap. They remain tapped until tick 10, at which time everything resets.

It's possible to customize your characters using cards. I don't know anything about how this works. I assume that the addition of cards adds to the honor point total of the figure, but that's just a guess.

If anybody has any other questions I'll answer what I can. It was a short demo and not everything was done or explained.

Thanks for posting some info from the demo, Jay! My friends and I have been speculating about the game system ever since the pictures from Toy Fair were posted earlier this week.

A few questions for you, if you can recall the info:
1) What are the main stats on the character cards? I can see "Honor" in the top right corner, and three others that look like "Armor" (shield icon), "Resist" (D6 icon) and "Health" (blood drop icon) along the left edge.

2) How is an attack made (dice rolled, cards/stats involved, etc.)?

3) Each character card in the demo pic seems to have a die (D6/D10) resting on the character portrait portion of the card. What does this die represent?

4) There are numbers from 1-10 across the top of the map. Is this how you track the "tick" clock you mentioned?

Thanks much for any answers you can give. :)

Have a good one!

No problem. I knew that they would generate a lot of speculation.

You have it basically right as I recall. There should be a basic attack, armor, magic defense and health.

A number of D10s rolled based on stats. 4+ is a success. Armor/magic resist reduces successes.

Honestly, I don't know. Those cards are not final (and weren't really supposed to be photographed) so they may have things on them that won't be there when the game is released.

That marks what the current tick of the game is. Your base will mark the tick that you next act (or are currently acting in). Once the game board marker reaches 10 you reset all of your abilities and such.

How big were the figures in relation to D&D/Star Wars Minis or Heroscape?
