2 weeks ago I started with the new Elfball 2007 project. I want to have the custom made pitch ready for the gaming fair in Stuttgart/Germany (15.-18.11.2007) were I want to present this game together with Lines, who is making the German translation of the rules.
I decided to go ahead again using plotter templates. I created with CorelDRAW 2 templates. One for the hex grid and one for the white and yellow circles. I use 30mm instead of 1 inch hex grids, so the field is 70x70cm:
Next I built a wooden frame using 8mm poplar with a 7cm border. For the inlay I use 5cm Styrofoam:
Now I started to design the walls of the Bench and Recovery area. I sanded the Styrofoam and just used a lead pencil to carve the structure:
I fixed small magnets under all counter fields to avoid unintentionally movement of counters.
Now I finished the walls and the grass:
Using a cutting plotter I have now the 2 templates:
My wife helped me to fix the template A on the pitch:
and using an Airbrush I got the black hex fields:
Now the second template for the white and yellow lines:
Now the most exciting moment:
The circles match exactly the hex fields:
The bench area is ready:
For the Magic Potions I found old Asterix minis, which were included in chewing gum in my youth:
And finally I used the pitch to make demos at the fair in Stuttgart 2007:
