I was just thinking of my favourite game of Scrabble where I managed to get 257 points in a single turn. Here's how I did it:

My Hand:
AAQNYRU

There was a lone D on the bottom row of the board, so i dropped in all my letters to form QUANDARY, where the D landed on the double letter score, while the word used 2 triple word scores.

Points Breakdown:
Q - 10
U - 1
A - 1
N - 1
D - 2 x 2 = 4
A - 1
R - 1
Y - 4
Subtotal = 23
Triple Word Score - 3 x 21 = 69
Triple Word Score - 3 x 63 = 207
Bonus for using all tiles = 50

Total = 257

Apparently, the record for the most points in a single turn is CAZIQUES for 392 points.

What's your record? I'm curious to see if anyone else here has had such high scores during games.

I think my record is 6. c=1 a=1 t=1 on a double word tile.

Seriously, I haven't played scrabble in a long time but I think my record is around 110 on a single play. 257 is a nice score.

I think your total should perhaps have been scored a bit differently. Since the "d" was already on the board, I don't think you should have received the double letter score for it. This fits the ruleset that is linked below (see Rule 5 under Scoring) :
http://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/Scrabble_(1999).pdf

So I think your revised score should be 239. Still very impressive. :)

My personal record? Probably around 55 or 60, I think.

Correct. You only score multipliers for tiles played, not already there. If you've been rescoring multipliers, that would lead to a different strategy during the game.

My record for one play is 230 - this after my opponent had played two straight bingos. His second bingo left a C in the rightmost column. I was able to play FETCHING (H double letter, blank as N) to reach both Triple Word scores.

That's probably the record in serious/competitive play. The record 'Superbingo' in games where the sole object is to set up the highest scoring play (a play using 8 tiles already legally on the board, adding seven tiles, three of which land on triple word scores making one enormous 15-letter word x3x3x3=x27, and simultaneously extending at least three other huge perpendicular words at the triple word scores, plus some other nontripled extends) is near 1800. OXYPHENBUTAZONE is the most popular superbingo for a standard English set, I've seen a snapshot of it in a 1778-point play (extending PACIFYING, REINTERVIEWED, RAINWASHINGS, MELIORATIVE, and JACULATING into OPACIFYING, PREINTERVIEWED, BRAINWASHINGS, AMELIORATIVE, and EJACULATING, respectively).

Now, as for your tripletriple play, I've only done that once. I believe it was INSPECTS, for 158ish (maybe a little less, one of them might've been a blank). I had INSECTS on my rack, was looking ahead a turn for the best place to drop it, and my opponent laid a P on the leftmost double letter on the top row. Score for me!

I play on the internet scrabble club and just had my biggest hit on the triple triple word queering for 212 points. What was so cool was I was way behind and only had three seconds left in the game and there were no other letters left in the rack.

I don't have any mega-scores I can think of.

Checking over the past 120ish games most recently played, I only hit 100 a couple of times: DIVULGER (100) and something I already forgot (101). GRADUAL was worth 97.

I don't know that I've even seen a board left where there was any reasonable chance to connect two triple-word scores. The best I've seen is a bingo through two double-word spaces.

Edit: all games are face-to-face with no electronics present.

Last week I played LIQUIDS on a triple-word, with the L on a double letter and the S hooking in front of CAT. I got 110 for that.

I'm also interested in fewest points on a bingo. Looking back, I see that 60 might be our lowest.
