Also wanted to add my kudos to the chorus. You did an excellent job!

I really liked the enthusiasm you put into the review. Your pace and voicing were engaging. I liked the quality transitions between segments. The picture in picture stuff was great. You might consider changing the camera positioning a few times during your discussion. It seemed like an inordinant amount of time was spent looking at the boardgame components while you spoke. Keep the camera on the components as you introduce them, but then consider zooming out so we can see you speak about them from time to time. One other thing I would encourage you to do is to give more of an overview or summary of the game before you start describing components and their mechanics in depth. I didn't feel like you really described the plague feature of the game early enough, for example.

Again, really nice job. Especially for the first episode.

Hey thanks for encouraging replies! Point noted about the camera positioning and the broader overview.

And oh, thanks for the tip, Tim!

Great review! I have been thinking about picking up this game, and after seeing this I think I will go ahead and buy it. n future reviews, it would be great to see the board and pieces a bit more close-up at some point. Please, keep it up!

Very, very nice! Thank you.

But, given that we're talking about the cathedral in Paris, "naw-truh dahm," please! :)

"NOH-treh DAHM" is a bit more accurate. Oh yeah, and use your uvular trill with the "r".

Hmmm... maybe I should upload a sound file of that... ninja

Oh, and it's called the "bell-ringer".

Great review. I buy one game per month and I was tossing up between Yspahan and Notre Dame for August. Your review has just convinced me to go for Notre Dame.

p.s. I loved the porno music between the segments!

Great review! Keep them coming!

I've got a question: How is this game compared to El Grande? I like El Grande a lot and somehow by viewing your review it 'feels' simular to me in the way of competitiveness, game weight, etcetera. Anyone can tell me if you probably will like this game if you like El Grande?

Bernard,

To me this game doesn't 'feel' like El Grande. The weight does feel similar and the colors of the game, but it feels pretty different.

In El Grande, there's tension in determining which power cards and which region you're moving your caballeros to, whereas in Notre Dame, the giving cards to your neighbor mechanic does not feel as tense, but the tension of the impending plague is what I feel present in my games.

Also in El Grande you KNOW to get points you 'just' need to get a majority in a region - In Notre Dame you are constantly weighing whether it's wiser to go after VP, Gold, or Plague management at any given time.

That said, I'd think if you like El Grande you would also like Notre Dame. Both excellent euros with similar weight.

Game on!
