HeroScape Master Set: Rise of the Valkyrie » Forums » Sessions
Part Two: Heroscape Tournament at Pet Shop Comics April 26th :

This tournament used the same format as the first, a timed five round Swiss with points based on surviving squads at battles end. To ensure fair match ups and act as arbitrators, two veteran H-scape players acted as Judges.

Judges Nate and Jake.

I'd never played with bonding or Gruts and I didn't feel comfortable handling my army yet. I barely got past Nate.

In the second round I faced off against the tournament organizer, Brandon aka Bloodthorn. Brandon fielded an army of mostly unique heroes including Master Wu with a squad of Shaolin Monks against my Grut army (120 Krug, 120 Arrow Gruts x 3, 120 Grimnak, 140 Heavy Gruts x 2)

Bloodthorn smiles an awful lot to be known as Bloodthorn

In this battle his Major Q9 or 10 got ganged up on by Krug and Grimnak in the center of the map. The Awa dude dueled my Grut archers and the Heavy Gruts split up. One squad more or less heading for Q9 and the other the Samurai champion.
His Soulborg fell as did Awa, Wu and Krug and Chompy. Once again I eeked out a narrow victory. I was still unsure I was handling the troops right. I was winning battles but not earning many points.

Scrib 2-0

SIDEBAR: Brady commented that Pet Shop Comics looked like a great place to play and meet gamers. During the All Day and Night Games day, the last Saturday of each month, Rick, the owner, usually fires up the grill and provides burgers, hot dogs or brats for a voluntary donation.

Fun reporting with nice photos...

...but no photos of the actual Heroscape board (closeups)?

Anyway, great fun to read!

I wish I could have taken more action pictures. These were timed games so my combat photography and journalistic instincts had to be suppressed in order to be competitive and fair to my opponents.

Due to my weak memory coupled with no time to take notes (I played five games in less than seven hours) the session reports have to rely on my general impressions of each battle.

2 and 0, looking good so far. You faced a really good army there.

Very Cool!

That looks like a great shop, I wish mine would do a grilling day. Bratwurst and Heroscape.....I might finally have a chance against the kids as the food descends through my plumbing. Chemical warfare is legitmate in HS right?

Cheers,
