We were really surprise with our last game on this map as it worked great with 2 players. This map was originally made for 3 players game but we replace the turn order rule with the one from the Austria map and we were glad with the result. We kept every other rules from the original rules of the Pittsburgh map.
This was our second 2 players AoS game on this day and Martin was looking for revenge after our earlier game on the Austria map. Martin was the first player to fully understand the impact of the new rules when we played our first game on this map and today it was the same situation. Pierre took the loco action but it was a bad move as it very difficult to connect3 cities on the first turn. Martin had a good start when he took the first build action and connected the cities in the southeast area. On the second turn Pierre linked Braddeck Hills and began to block Martin in the east while his opponent urbanized in the southeast. Pierre continued his strategy on next turn when he took the first build to deny Martin from connecting the cities in the center and this was almost succesful but there was still one exit left and this was enough for Martin. Pierre had slowed Martin for a while but had put his own network at stake. Pierre was confused after all these evil builds as there wasn't many interesting goods to ship for him. Martin was then able to connect every cities in the northwest by using many complex tiles on the northern side of the map. From turn 5 Martin had many goods available for 5 and 6 income. Pierre still didn't understand the lesson from his bad start and was still using the first build action to try to block Martin. Pierre had a good end of game when he made some loops in the west but it was too late as Martin had a big lead over Pierre at this stage.
As in our previous game on this map money was very scarce even at the end of the game. We really appreciated this map with the new rules, specially the ones about the high cost to build straight tracks. The game is even more challenging than the basic game as it feels like a very tough puzzle. We're really anxious to try this map with 2 players. We had a very tough game when playing with 2 players so we suppose it will be even tougher when we'll add a third player.
Final scoring:
Martin: 82
Pierre: 78
