COMPONENTS:

Megalith comes with a wooden board and 9 numbered wooden discs for each player along with 8 wooden pegs for each player. The discs are numbered:

1,1,2,2,3,3,4,5,6. One set in white and one in brown.

THE GOAL:

To be the first to place all 8 of your wooden pegs.

GAME PLAY:

Each person takes a turn placing a disc on one of the 18 spots that form a triangular formation, with 15 lines running through them. A line can consist of 2,3,4, or 5 spots in a row. The discs are placed numbered side down, so your opponent doesn't know which disc you played. The discs aren't turned over until a complete line has been filled in and the person with the higher total wins the line and places a peg at the end of it, to show ownership. In the event of a tie, the person who placed the last disc on the line automatically loses the line to his opponent. As discs are revealed, you get a better sense of what your opponent might still be holding and what may still be unseen on the board, as far as the discs go.

COMMENTS:

With only 18 spots in a triangular formation on the board to place one of 9 discs you start out with, doesn't sound very interesting in writing. But nothing could be further from the truth. Making the most of what's known and what's not know, is what makes this game so interesting. There's a degree of reading your opponent and occasional bluffing involved, but it all adds up to fun.

My only complaint with the game is the small size of the board, like some of it's sisters games, like "Creeper" for example, the board is what you'd expect in a travel edition of a game, not a full blown board. But once you start playing, you'll forget about the size of the board and find yourself concentrating on where to place that next disc.
