Why Play It?

Guillotine is one of those games that you pull out when your looking for a fun, relaxing (and hilarious) game. It has great cartoon style artwork, funny card names, and is great for the whole family.

What do you do?

In Guillotine the goal of the game is to have the most valuable nobles and therefore the most points at the end of the game. The game is divided into 3 "days" of 12 nobles each in a straight line. These nobles range on a point scale from -3 to 5 and are divided into four groups being: Green=Government, Red=Military, Purple=Royalty, and Blue=Church. In order to get the best nobles you have a hand of various action cards that can do a variety of things.
Most of the action cards allow you to manipulate the order of the line so that you can get the best nobles possible. Some allow you to discard other players action cards, draw extra action cards, or even give you a bonus for a certain color of nobles that you have.

Order of Play.

At the beginning of the game you deal five action cards to each player, determine which players will start the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd days, and lay out 12 nobles for the first day.

Step 1:

You may play an action card, and do the associated action.

Step 2:

Take the noble at the front of the line, and put it in your score pile. If this exhausts the noble line for that day, then draw 12 new nobles and play continues in the predetermined order. (Unless at the end of the third day)

Step 3:

Draw an action card from the deck. (Do this even if you had not played one on the current turn)

End of game:

After the third "day" of nobles has been exhausted everyone counts up their nobles point value, and the player with the highest score wins!

Conclusion:

Guillotine is a great game for the whole family, and an enjoyable experience even for an experienced gamer. Its replayability is high, and is an easy game to just grab and go. The only bad thing I could say about it is that it is a little heavy on luck, but you really always have that with cards. Overall I give it an A+ (and at $15 it's a great buy too).
