It's not clear, from looking at the two threads and the reviews, what is the same or different between the original Dread Pirate and DP, Buc's revenge.

Can someone fill me in on that?

Is BR the same as the original, with more stuff added?

Is it lighter weight in terms of components?

I see that BR does not come in the 'treasure chest,' but what else is different?

Someone on the other thread spoke of "combining the two games," which suggests that they may be very different.

I appreciate any help in clarifying this.

DP-BR is quite different from DP. BR is a higher-strategy game that takes about the same amount of time to play. In BR you run quests around the board, which gives you gold and gems, as well as giving your ship special abilities. There are 3 ways to win in BR, and the addition of this, the quests, and the action cards all reduce the randomness in the game. You can take the two decks of cards from BR and play the game with the big DP components, which is what people were saying about combining the two sets together. Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks, Dan.

I see that DP also has a deck, but a different number of cards--suggesting either that it's a totally different deck or that something small changed. Which answer is correct?

I went ahead and got BR-- now I'm wondering if I'm "missing" anything from DP?

Your note suggests I'm not-- I am curious about the cards.

The decks are completely different. DP-BR does not use the DP deck at all. The DP cards are random events that happen as you move on the board, and are very simple card effects (gain a gold, lose a turn, move some extra spaces, etc.). Some of the cards from DP are repeated in the DP-BR deck, but very few of them.

So, yes, if you have DP-BR, you don't need anything from DP, unless you want higher-quality components to use in your game. I'm a sucker for metal coins and ships, personally (though that just may be because of how much of a pain they were to produce).
