I don't usually post sessions, but I had to after this exciting scenario.
(If you're not familiar with the scenarios, you can download the PDF from the website that will show you the map and the goal of the scenario)
Starting with only one tribe in region 5, your only real option is to spread out as quickly as possible. So by the time I was drawing the second card (the first card had no effect), I had 2 tribes in region 8, and one in regions 7 and 5. However, a sand storm struck me in region 7 with the second card. Losing the forest, my tribe died during the upkeep. This left my tribe in region 5 stranded, so I only had regions 1 and 8 to work with. I didn't give up though, expanding to region 1. I continued to draw calamities (epidemic, tribal war), but they hit on empty regions. I was able to build a farm and then city in region 8, but to do so, was left with only 1 tribe in region 8 left. It didn't look good, with only 5 cards left. I expanded to region 1 again, and drew no event. So I had 4 cards, 2 tribes, and little hope of getting a city in the desert that was region 4.
However, my fourth to last card was a flood, and it hit region 4! All of a sudden there was hope. I moved a tribe to region 4,and three to region 1 (to build a farm). With my second to last event card, I drew no event. I built the farm. My last turn, I had two tribes in region 8, two in region 1 and two in region 4. I moved four into region 4 and left the two in region 8. I was all ready to purchase the Cartage advance and build a city in region 4. My last event card was again a no event.
So, if the Era ends as soon as the last card is drawn, I lost. Furthermore, if the Era ends as soon as all the actions from the last card are conducted, I lost. But, if you wait to end the era until you have to draw another card, but can't, then I won...
Anyway, I hope this made sense. It's amazing how I seemingly went from impossible situation to so close!
