Where do the two animals come from when you play the Animal Yard, your own personal supply, or the general supply?

From taking an action, or from breeding during harvest.

The card is simply a free pasture to hold any two animals, it does not generate animals by itself.

I didn't realize you could have a personal supply of animals, I thought they had to go straight to the pasture from acquiring them from an action.

Yes, when I said personal supply I meant from your supply of animals on your player board, in pastures, stables or your house. I interpreted the card to mean take from personal supply, although many other cards say "place X on this card" (example, Grocer) and mean for those things to come from the general supply.

Does this come from Errata posted somewhere? Because as it's worded, it is a command to place the animals there. Not "When you take animals, you can place..", but rather "Place..." I compare to the wording on the Wildlife Reserve (taken from online lists, not the card itself, since I'm not currently colocated with my copy of the game), which says "This card can hold...". Very different.

Yes, this card is poorly worded, but it does NOT give you free animals. The card's pretty good, but it's not that good.

Actually, in the original German, the cards are very similar.

Tierhof: Auf dieser Karte kannst du bis zu 2 beliebige Tiere halten... ("On this card you can hold up to 2 random animals...")
Tiergarten: Auf dieser Karte kannst du bis zu 1 Schaf, ... ("On this card you can hold up to 1 Sheep, ...")

My friend played this card last night and immediately placed two free cattle on it. I didn't even think to double-check what the card said, let alone implied. Based on the wording of the card, it clearly commands you to immediately place two animals of your choice on the card.

I guess I will keep this one in mind and be prepared for some whining when people try to play it.

Who translated this game, anyway? Eugene, you are hired for the reprint! :p

I think this one needs to go back to Lookout for clarification ninja

Came across this yesterday. We used card drafting for the initial set up. 3 of us passed the card on and the 4th player kept it. When he played it and took two cattle from the stock the other 3 of us all said, well I would have kept it if I had read it like that. We agreed to go with the majority consensus and play that the animals have to come from stock.
Personally I think taking two animals of your choice makes it far to powerful as it also has a VP, so for two wood you get an instant 3VP, plus if you have the capacity, they will breed and after the next turn you will have a spare cow to eat each turn.
