A name for abstract game fans . . .
I posed this question in Chit Chat for the comedy potential, but later had it pointed out that this is a legitamate question:

We have the Ameritrash, Eurosnoot, Grognard labels. But what do we call fans of Abstract Strategy games?

A little help, please?

I don't think you're getting many real answers here Avri. In the end, I call myself a gamer.

Some of these are funnier than the responses in Chit Chat. :)

There isn't enough love for abstract gamers to give them an affectionate, or even pejorative, nickname.

We're just "those guys," as in "Oh, wait, you're one of those guys." While Eurosnoot and Ameritrash argue, we try to but in for a moment and they both glare at us with equal annoyance. Wargamers are too busy playing a session.

Sherlocks???

It fits, and has almost enough of a negative connotation to match AmeriTrasher and EuroSnoot.

spockers

As an abstract game fan, this gets my vote (actually, I think 'spocks' would be more appropriate). I think it fits the general perception of abstract fans perfectly. Here's some spock quotes - any of which I would be proud to utter while I thrash you at YINSH.

Kirk: Have I ever mentioned you play a very irritating game of chess, Mr Spock?
Spock: Irritating? Ah yes - one of your Earth emotions.

Bailey: I happen to have a human thing called an adrenaline.
Spock: That sounds most inconvenient. Have you considered having it removed?

Spock: Your illogical approach to chess does have its advantages on occasion, Captain.
Kirk: I prefer to call it inspired.
Spock: As you wish.

McCoy: Shouldn't you be working on your time warp calculations, Mr Spock?
Spock: I am. (He resumes staring into space)

Kirk: You'd make a splendid computer, Mr Spock.
Spock: That is very kind of you, Captain!

It's a funny thing about timing... I was just thinking about this the other day as I have come to the conclusion that I am neither a raving ATer (AmeriTrasher) or a congested ESer (EuroSnooter). I am but a simple a AGer (Abstract Gamer).

Since I highly doubt a term like 'AGer' would ever take off, I'd have to put in another vote for 'Spocker'.
