Great looking game !
I can hardly wait to get a copy.

Question about Aces:

Do these Aces get any special abilities or powers?

How about when a regular player becomes an Ace?

Forza Baracca!

>Great looking game !

Thanks a lot, we did some effort to make it nice.

>I can hardly wait to get a copy.

The first ones in English will be on the way to Fantasy Flight Games in the next weeks...

>Do these Aces get any special abilities or powers?

Not at the moment. We have developed a few aces rules that will be put at www.wingsofwar.it to be used by players. We think to include them in future boxes depending on the feedback.

They will be based on a kind of skill system. One of them is used as an example in a scenario on the rule booklet of the first two boxes: cards that shows that you jammed your machineguns can have a green or a red symbol for that purpose. One ace skill will be to ignore the green ones. This reflect the behaviour of people like Silvio Scaroni, second Italian ace after Baracca (the yellow Hanriot on the cover of the second box is its own), who used to pull out every bullet from the strip before taking off, and to throw away all the ones that were no perfect. Since many men were at the front, productions was often left to unspecialized workers (women, youngs, elders) and so the defective bullets were quite a lot. He and his weapon technician "Il Bigio" would discard up to half of the bullets. But then he used to jam guns quite seldom, compared to other pilots!

Other skills could be about the use of "steep manoeuvers" with less limits, better aim, better tailing and so on. We could also rule the use of non-standard airplanes like Scaroni's and Fucini's Hanriots with two MG instead of one (Scaroni's and Bigio's innovation - Belgian pilots were convinced that it was not worth), Collinshaw's Triplane with double MGs too, German Camels and Nieuports. But for the moment we just put them into play and let them for a free use in more variable scenarios.

>How about when a regular player becomes an Ace?

Nothing original, probably... If you often play with your friends, you could gain a skill at your fifth victory and then another at certain amounts of victories. Being shot down should mean a penality, or maybe a check to see if you are permanently incapacitated/POW: if not, you could keep all your skills. Suggestions are welcome. www.wingsofwar.it should be there for that... When it will be finished.

Thanks for your attention!

Re:Planes
Andrea, I'm really looking forward to this game. Especially now that Fantasy Flight has scheduled it for a June release. I hope they have contracted to publish "Watch Your Back" as well. 2-Seaters are a must. Now, if you'd only seen fit to include the Bristol Fighter (my favorite)...

Is there a future for the game beyond these two releases? Perhaps a balloon busting rules set? Then I could get my Frank Luke-piloted-Spad XIII. :)

Re:Planes
angiolillo (#26697),

Great list, however I hope I speak for everyone who has ever taken Grade Nine history in Canada when I say that it won't be complete without Billy Bishop!

I mean, c'mon, he has more victories than all but two pilots in the war, and was only 8 behind the Red Baron. When will we see him in the game?

I guess I'd better demand more Billy Bishop, too. I'm not sure that any of his planes are actually in the sets.

That's exactly the problem! First of all we choose the airplane models: each set has to have an adequate mix that depends on equal firing capacity (there is only a Damage Deck in each set), matching maneuverability/speed (there are 4 maneuver deck for 5 planes), nationality and scenario possibilities... As soon as we make SE5A or Nieuport 17, Bishop will be on top of our minds! In the meantime, Raymond Collishaw is zalready there for our Canadese fans.
For those who asked: Nexus will release "Famous Aces" immediately and "Watch your back!" in April/May. FFG should release both of them at the same time, in June.

Bye and thanks to all of you!

Re:Planes
I forgot about further plans... Yes, we'd like to make more boxes. Balloon busters, heavy bombers (Staakens, Handley Pages and Capronis in the foirst place) and ace rules are among the things we are thinking about. But also non-WW1 and non-aerial games are in the list... Let's see the reactions to the first two boxes. There seem to be some interest in them, but we have to check if you'll really like the game or if it will disappoint you when it wil finally be on your dining tables... ???

That was the plan. For a mistake of the printer, the very first print run does not have a single promo card - it has three copies of the Ufag and even two copies of the SPAD XIII (a box that strongly promotes even itself). Those are additional cards, so you just get them beside the normal contents and you do not miss anything of the normal content of the box.

This bug will be fixed in the first reprint (if the printer does not get wrong again) that will be completed in two weeks.

In my copy of the game, three of the Sopwith Triplanes show they are intended for use with the A damage deck while one indicates the B deck is required. Or I may have it backwards, but one is definitely the opposite deck from the remaining three.

Is that a typo, or does the one pilot really have different maneuver capabilities?

Re:Planes

D'oh. Never mind, I just found my answer in the FAQ. I should read first, type second. :)

Great game, by the way! Sadly, I can attest to the fact that I am not the pilot that Richthofen was, even when I pilot his machine.

Re:Planes
PatK (#39046),
yes, it is the firing capability that varies. The Sopwith Triplanes used to be built with a single machinegun, but 5 of them have been equipped with two of them instead. Collishaw's machine, "Black Maria", was one of those.
A replica is on display at the Air Muesum of Ottawa, Canada:

Don't worry if you are not as good as Richthofen's... yet. This is a game where you learn more to fly your machine every time you play...
;)

Bye and thanks!
