WELCOME TO:
THELEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY HEROSCAPERS.
THE LOUNGE

This is the home (formerly "founding meeting) of "the League of Extraordinary Heroscapers"! (L.o.E.H.)

This is an exclusive club for grown men (middleaged and up! EDIT: Middleaged in this context is an arbitrary 35!) who still get all giddy at the sight of brightly coloured plastic hexes and the prospect of vikings and robots having it out with dragons and aliens!
Compared to some of the greying gamers that post here on a regular basis, I am, with my 38 summers, but a youngling still, but for all intents and purposes, I do count myself among the grown-ups...

SQUIRE PROGRAM

Are you below the minimum required age, 35, but still wish to be part of our illustrious group, you are wellcome to join the SQUIRE PROGRAM.
As a League Squire, you are expected to help with the daily chores, like cleaning the stables and refreshing drinks, and are expected to have a polite tone when adressing your elders.
(as there´s no actual stables, and drinks are, in reality, only information flowing on the internet, this couldn´t be any easier! You are in fact only expected to politely and patiently lend your ear when a gentleman of proper age deigns to share his "wisdom" with you...)
I´ll let First Squire Neil explain it...
Neil Thomson wrote:
Good evening Sires, Masters and our most beautiful Dame.

Let me top up your glasses with an ale, spirit or other beverage before I take leave of my duties for just a moment or two. I need to visit the stables for just a moment...

RIGHT..GET UP YOU LAZY GITS THERE"S WORK TO BE DONE.

The Duties of a Humble Squire

A great honour has been bestowed upon us this fine day. Our Illustrious Masters have seen fit to expand the scope of the Finest League in the land and grant us, mere sods in a barrel, the honour of an extended Squire Program.

This means you filthy maggots, that anyone under the required age (35), breeding and general intellect of a Master, may be admitted to the League of Extraordinary Heroscapers, before their time is due.

Such a privilege sees you labeled with the title of Squire. Your purpose in life is to pay homage to the Masters and the Grand Dame. We are to refer to them as such, ensure the hearth is adequately stoked, the drinks never run dry and ensure that the stables are kept in order.

In return we may, if we are lucky, hear tales of great deeds undertaken in the lands of Valhalla. We may be privy to great arcane lore past down from generation to generation regarding the lands and the creatures of the great 'Scape. But perhaps even more importantly we are privy to grand tales, black humour and general teeth gnashing that is famous within our halls.

This is in effect our tutelage...our right of passage to the hallowed ranks of future Masters and Dames.

Our Masters are usually gracious enough to let our voices be heard. But always remember to address them in the proper manner. Failure to do so may result in a late night visit from the Reverend. The stables are not a friendly place at these times... shake ...and quite frankly I'll be happy to share the burden.

This place can be kind to a lowly Squire that is prepared to work hard and keep in touch with the various Masters that frequent the Lounge. Be well. I have claimed the top loft for my quarters...the rest of you are welcome to the Pig Pen. Kust look out for Betsy...I think she is coming into heat.

Squire Neil - The First

To join, as a regular member, OR as a Squire, you simply respond to this thread with your intent do do so, and/or send me a Geekmail! (If you discover this thread weeks or months after its original posting, it´s probably a good thing to send the mail if you wish to join!)

I will then add you to the roster, which will be prominently posted on my profile page!
Sadly, no special bonuses will come with membership, other than the envy of your peers, that you are a member of such a select and venerable society! No diploma, club house, discounts on Heroscape product, or anything else that would actually be useful, are at this time being offered!

Like the act of playing Heroscape itself, I just thought that this might be a fun thing to do!

So what are you waiting for? Join up!
Birth certificate or some kind of pill perscription are not required as proof of age, the L.E.H. operates on a foundation of goodwill and trust!

All members, new and old, should feel most wellcome to now think of this post as the "League Lounge" ! Whenever your feet get weary from wandering the many long corridors of the BGG, a fine stuffed leather chair, a cigar, and off course, a snifter of Brandy or a glass of Scotch, always awaits you here, along with some of the finest company found in the entire realm of the internet!

Sincerely
Jesper Thestrup
Founder and member of "the League of Extraordinary Heroscapers."

I can't resist chiming in here Jesper. 45 rotations puts me in the frame for the club. I still get maximum excitement when I crack a new expansion set and partake of the OOBiE (Out Of the Box Experience).

Kudos to you for thinking of such a cool idea. Thumbs up all round.

Wellcome to the club Bruce!
You´ve been added to the roster!
Glad you liked the idea!

Can you go to a local store and buy your ´Scape?
Or do you have to buy online like me?
This adds the joys and pains of waiting for the package to arrive before you can open the boxes!

Thanks for the welcome

There is at least one store in Brisbane that carries HS but they are way on the Northside of the city and I am way South. I need to pack a cut lunch to visit.

I've made most of my purchases online from Australian e-tailers and some from HouseMouse Games. As you say, the anticipation can add to the excitement, although with the way most post gets handled these days, I'm always worried I'm going to get damaged goods.

Re: Join "the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"! A society for venerable elderly ´Scapers
Dear Sir Jesper,

I do believe I qualify for admission to this select and bodacious enterprise under the following criteria:

1. I am Scottish, as is Shirr Sean Connery who played Alan Quartermain in the eponymous movie; although unfortunately, I have neither his looks nor his acting ability and fortune.

2. I am certainly in the required age group, having been successfully dodging coffins for nigh on 60 years now.

3. I am an avid Heroscaper as denoted by my microbadge and various outstanding contributions, too numerous to mention, to this very site.

4. It goes without saying that I am a Gentleman and a Scholar.

Should I be adopted into this fraternity, I shall endeavour to bring to bear my reknowned wit, sagacity, enthusiasm, joie de vivre and all the other fine qualities for which I am known; modesty being the least of these.

Your Most Humble and Obedient Servant etc...

You are surely wellcome!

Although the eloquasiousness of your vocabulocity, demonstrated in the aforementioned application for membership, makes one wonder, if not, indeed, you are perhaps overqualified, at least as for the part concerning sheer gentlemanness!

Hi Jesper!
39 years of gaming under my belt. A pile of Heroscape stuff the size of a minivan. As I've helped with your heroscape collection I hope I can join! I also realized I may very well owe you a response to an email from a while back. Ack! sorry, pinging you now.

How young is too young (keep the thoughts clean, boys)? I hail from the wonderful year of 1971, but I own every piece of HS goodness out there, minus GenCon solo shots. So while I'm perhaps short in the tooth, I'm long on the monetary investment for this collectible "non-collectible" game.

Since we have an Audiologist (Mr. Hudson's CCC-A) in the group, how about a Speech-Language Pathologist (CCC-SLP)?

Okay!
There´s already seven of us, and I´m sure, more to come!
Any ideas for activities or other things to do?

Weekly meetings?
A ´Scaper of the week/month thread?
Get someone to design a membership micro badge?
Take over the Geek and make Heroscape the #1 game?cool
At the very least, we´ve got to get ourselves a secret handshake or something!

I'm 58 and my HeroScape collection takes up several cubic feet, so I fit the demographic. I tend not to be a joiner, but will gladly make an exception for an organization with no meetings, no obligations, and such a fine group of charter members.
