Re: Join "the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"! A society for venerable elderly ´Scapers
If Jim O'Neill puts on some Jethro Tull, and you have works of art like these around,

I'm certainly an elderly HS fan (38).

I salute your sharing games with those 10-14 year olds, and showing them there's more to life than XBoxs, Playstations, MySpace, and texting.

I´m happy about the interest, and a bit overwhelmed!
wellcome to the latest three!
dlminsac, Sphere and Reapersaurus, you´ll all be added to the roster at my earliest convenience!

The longitudes at which I live, and the hours during which I work, more or less force me to sleep at other hours than you americans, so I´ll update the roster tomorrow...

I'm a secret operative in the League as I bought the set "for my son." He does need a partner, after all.

Cradle Robber!

You say he's robbing the cradle, but I say she's robbing the grave !

I'm in.

Call me Treybell. I've completed 46 trips around the sun. I think that qualifies me in the age catagory.

I'm a fan of Heroscape and many other plastic army men games. (Mage Knight, D&D minis, etc.)

I like that Heroscape can be played with what has been provided and can integrate custom minis from other games as well. And the terrain is fun to build with too !

Re: Join "the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"! A society for venerable elderly ´Scapers
I am 46, a SL/ASL player since 1977/85, and owner of four Warhammer armies. For years, I resisted the pull of Heroscape, disdaining the boxes on the shelves at Wal-Mart, with their nice pre-painted miniatures and intriguing terrain system.

I picked up a "Road to the Forgotten Forest" box. Trees for Warhammer, you know.

I grabbed four castle set when Amazon had them on sale. For Warhammer, obviously.

A friend of mine gave me -- GAVE me -- a copy of Rise of the Valkyrie. I never opened it.

Then, last spring, came the blowout sale at a nearby K-Mart, with the ROTV being clearanced for $12. I bought five of them.

Target was selling Swarm of the Marro for $20. I bought the two they had left.

The rest is a blur. Finding Wave 6 at another Wal-Mart late last spring, buying three sets of Zombies, two sets of orcs/shades, and one each of the others. Finding Wave 2 at a FLGS last March and buying all of them. Buying all the recently released waves, including two sets of knights and two sets of ashiguru/musketmen. Found the lawmen and samurai booster at another FLGS. Even grabbed all of the Wave five's I found languishing on Wal-Mart shelves.

And three copies of Ticalla Jungle, plus a Volcarran Wasteland at Toys-R-Us.

Then I started downloading huge castle-oriented maps off of Heroscapers ....

Re: Join "the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"! A society for venerable elderly ´Scapers
Well, I'd like to join this group. I believe I qualify. The last game of Heroscape I played was against a fellow who is 51 years younger than I am.... a grandson.... he's 4.

We played a few games of "beginner" scenarios and then I introduced him to the advanced scenarios which he really likes. I have to help remind him of the special powers because he can't read yet. But he's got a good memory so it's not tooo bad.

Sneaky guy that I am, I have taught him how to do his own math to figure out combat results. He was having fun so he didn't notice that he was learning simple math. Too late now. He learned how to add and subtact before he realized what was happening.

Of course I handicap by giving myself less points and sometimes suggest to him why he may want to do this or not do that. Th game works for us!

I've got an idea for one, but not necessarily the time. If anyone's interested in taking on this task, let me know. It would entail us being called the League of Extraordinary Heroscapers (LXH) or the League of Extraordinary 'Scapers (LXS) for ease of microbadging.

Funny you should mention that. It had occurred to me that 'League of Extraordinary Heroscapers' would be a better name for the group, and I was just about to suggest it when I saw your post.

- 4 sets of the second set
- the castle
- the lava set
- 43 years under my belt

Sigh....

Perhaps my wife is right.... maybe it is a bit childish to be playing with "toy soldiers"....... NAW!

Would "the League of Extraordinary Heroscapers" be more appropriate?

Re: Join "the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"! A society for venerable elderly ´Scapers
Put me in Coach - you need some rep'ing in Central America - if duty calls we need people all over teh world ready to handle andy scape crisis that may come up.

Why I should be accepted - cause we need someone good looking in the group and I am just use to being wanted around for my good looks OOOOOK then, maybe not.

I have seen 41 years on this planet, I have way more HS stuff then you want me to mention ( well over $4,000 with most bought on sale ) and if I wasn't building my house I her in Costa Rica I would be holding the 3rd annual Canton Ohio Nat. Heroscape tournayment this weekend and would have blown out all comers with the biggest and best turnout around ( the 1st year I was 2nd smallest with 9 people, last year 2nd biggest with 44 people and I had it set to take down Iowa - but making the Misses happy comes first ). I went to GenCon this year and of the 7 Promo's I got - get this one - I gave them all away ( but I have them everywhere I need them to play ). Jesper you will be pleased to know you are getting a signed card from Bunjee herself ( well if the postman every shows up with it ) - I have given away over 20 Master sets trying to spread our beloved game and who doesn't want a friend in Costs RIca - cause it is always 90 in the shade here. I have a guest hosue that is always open to scapers and now boardgamers - even if no one will take me up on the offer.
Oh yea and the best reason of all ---- GenCon Nat. Championship - I went 5-0 the first day and was ranked #1 going into the finals, so for 1 day I was the greatest Scaper around ( that beats 15 minutes any ol' day , well with this group maybe I shouldn't say ol' )

Great Idea Jesper

JIm - your as young as the people you hang out with, so your way younger then your years say!

Aiiiee! I would kill for a reasonable skahen... I have every piece of heroscape plastic to come down the pipe, including all exclusives but that ONE. I refuse to pay ebay gouge prices. soblue anybody in this cool exclusive club have access to an extra? When the Nerak came out I got my hands on about 8 of them. like a dummy (I mean good friend) I gave most away to friends who were even mildly interested in the game to try to hook them. If I had hung on to them I could have just traded every year.. the sad thing is most of them have no idea what happened to the ones I gave them. angry

Sounds like you gave them away for all the right reasons, but man, that´s too bad!
I have the Elite Onyx Vipers, Nerak, Sir Hawthorne and Master Woo, in decent homemade repaints, with professonally printed, double sided cards (made from scans provided by Marc btw!), but Agent Skahen will be my first real original one!

In all the excitement I forget to say thanks for this comment!
I do a lot of non-digital activities with the kids. Apart from boardgaming, I do monthly live roleplaying, with lots of making weapons and eqipment in-between. It is nice to see them get excited and involved with things that don´t take place on a TV/computer/cellphone screen...

Okay guys, if there was any sort of ulterior motive behind starting this little club (17 members at the moment!), it might have been getting a bit more fun going, in the Heroscape corner of the Geek!

How about having that "Heroscaper of the week" thing? With the current membership list, we should be good for a few months, almost half a year, and a conservative estimate says that we´ll probably get a couple more members in the next week or so.
I could make a standard questionaire thing, and we could have a new Leaguer stepping up every week, giving the rest of us a good reason for checking in and joining the fun!
We could simply take turns, from the top of the roster, and work our way down, or "steal" the "Geek of the Week" idea, and have the "Heroscaper of the Week" choose the next guy to pass the torch to...

How about it?

George,

I don't think anyone is going to be forced or even in the least way pressured. Please reconsider. If you leave, it will half the average age of the League.

Like Jim said, NO PRESSURE!
The whole thing was meant as a bit of fun, and noone should participate unles they wanted to! I could take it from the top of the list, and offer people to post. I am not interested in souring this for anybody, making them "resign"...
