PitchCar » Forums » Variants
"Mario Kart" variant
I made ten "boxes", taking some light cardboard slips folded in half, about 1/4" wide. I then wrote tags on what each of them did:

1 Blue Shell
3 Green Shell
3 Turbo
3 Banana Peels

At the beginning of the 3-laps, toss all of them up high above the board. Whichever ones land on the track, you stand them up where they fell. Ignore the ones that did not make it onto the track. If a car slides into a tab, the driver picks up the item (unless the driver already has an item, and then the extra item is just removed from the board). During one of that player's future turns, they can use that item in addition to normal movement. (Whichever driver completes the first lap or second lap, triggers a dispersal of all the unused boxes.)

Blue Shell: I took some regular-sized blue sticky notes, put two together, cut out the center (for a car-sized hole) and then trimmed the outside corners off to make a doughnut shape. When you use a blue shell, place the doughnut on top of the lead car...that car and any car touching the doughnut skip their next turn.

Green Shell: Grab one of those green glass beads that are flat on one side, rounded on the rest. (Found at craft stores, and maybe aquarium stores?) Temporarily remove your car from the board. Flick the bead forward or back on the track - the first car it hits, loses its next turn. (Then remove the shell.) To make it more interesting, that car cannot be on the same race tile as the shooting car. If it hits a box, remove the box, but doesn't count as a car.

Turbo: Flick again.

Banana Peel: Take a small bit of a yellow sticky note, 1" width of the top sticky part + ~1/4" non-sticky. Fold the non-sticky tab portion down, insert into a break between two road segments that the car just passed over this turn, and have the sticky portion up (the "above track portion" aren't road spikes that face oncoming traffic). Remove the banana peel the first time it affects a car. (Generally it stops a slow-moving car, or sometimes acts as a ramp to send a car off the board.)

I've added a pit crew of meeples (1 of each color) to show the order of drivers - if a car picks up an item, the item is draped on top of the appropriate meeple until the item is used.

Very cool ideas, can't wait to try them!

And thanks for the construction tips too!

This sounds great. I would love to see some photos or a template of the "boxes."

Brilliant.

I use PitchCar with kids from time to time, this will give it new appeal.

The original ones were more like barricade signs - I wanted to minimize the weight of them.

I made a proper "box" - it weighs a bit more (if it bounces into another car, it can move it slightly).

In the picture, I have a banana peel upside down (labeled "Non Sticky Side") and another as if it had been used.

I hope the picture explains my initial post better, even with the blue shell explosion being out of focus.

Hello Jimmer

thank for your idea !

I actually create some design material for your idea of Mario Pitch Kart !

For the rule I propose this :

3 green turtles : 3 protections and may throw them (see after)
1 green turtle : just may throw it one time
red turtle : when used give 1 shoot with 2 pitches
bleu turtle (only for last player see after) multiple pitch (one after each player) until shoot the first player.
star : when used prevent every shoot until 3 turn
missile : (only for last player see after) immediately have 4 pitches with invulnerability
mushroom : when used give + 1 pitch
banana : when used let on road after a pitch, everyone who touch it lost a pitch (banana is destroy after that)
little white squid : when used, all other player in front of your kart must play blind their next turn !

I always try to follow the video game.

For bonus I create 3 types of dice used when you touch a "present" on the road, to select witch bonus you will have :
first dice, only for the first player! it is a 6 side dice with 2x 1banana, 1x 3 bananas, 1x star, 1x mushroom, and 1x green turtle
middle dice for all other players it is a 6 side dice with 1x banana, 1x little squid, 1x red turtle, 2x 1mushroom, and 1x 3green turtle
last dice only for the last players it is a 6 side dice with 1x 3mushroom, 1x 3 green turtle, 1x missile, 1x little squid, and 1x blue turtle, 1x 1 red turtle.

When you touch a "present",wait another pitch and then put back the present marker, with a line of 2 present on the road there always have at least 1 present of each player.

see my pictures
