My son and I just got this game going and we read the rules a few times but no where does it say how many and when you draw cards. I couldn't find anything on here so I was hoping someone could help.

Specifically, how many cards do I draw after I play one card? I assume I can only play one card per turn? Then can I draw a new card? Do I have to wait until I run out of cards? Do I have to play all my cards in my hand? Can I keep cards in my hand to play later? Do I have to play a lower card on my group? How many and when would I draw cards? I understand the discard rule, but there is nothing about the drawing card rule. Thanks

In Colossal Arena (which is Titan with 4 extra characters and a few other mods) you discard up to 3 cards (dead characters only) and draw back to a hand of 8. I'm fairly sure that this is the same in Titan too.

In answer to your other questions: you normally play 1 card per turn; on any character in the row. The card can be a higher or lower value than any that are already in place; you can place a card on top of another card to alter its' value. So (i)play a card (ii) discard (if applicable) and (iii) draw back to 8.

Note that if you are the backer of a creature (highest bet totals currently on a creature, you get to play the creatures power every time you play a card on that creature (though Ettin is a once per round power).

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I just played Colossal Arena and we ran into some confusion as to how and when to draw cards. I found a response to the same question on BGG, but I still don't get it. If you don't mind, could someone further explain this?

If you only draw cards after discarding dead creature's cards (as stated in the rules under "Phase 3"), I don't see how you can stay in the game in certain situations.

For example, I'll give you an extreme case: let's say I started the game off with 8 Colossus cards, the next player only had Wyrm cards, etc - people only had one creature's cards. It would be impossible to finish a round, right? And we would inevitably run out of cards in our hand . . . how could we replenish combat cards?

In our game, in the middle of it, one person became very close to running out of cards, he had no dead creature's cards and we had to stop to consider how he would get more. We ended up creating our own rule where we all fill up to 8 cards at the end of each round.
Our variant works, but we want to understand the prescribed rules.

Anyway, all this to say, I need some help with this. Thanks.

You always draw to replenish up to 8 cards after every turn.

A turn consists of five steps:

1. You may place a bet (or reveal a secret bet). If you *place* a secret bet, skip step 2.
2. You must play one card. If you played a non-spectator card to a combatant for which you are the backer and you did not play that card on *top* of a Spectator card, you may activate that combatant's ability.
3. You may discard up to 3 cards of combatants that are no longer in play.
4. If you have fewer than 8 cards, draw as many cards as would bring your hand to 8 cards.
5. Check for round-end condition (all combatants have cards in the current round and one uniquely has the lowest).

So in most turns in the first round (IE, if no combatant ability affects the number of cards in your hand, be it by allowing you to draw extra cards, discard extra cards, play multiple cards, reclaim a card from in play, or steal a card from an opponent), you will play one card and draw one card.

Thanks! That makes sense now.

And how it works with the Amazon?

I have 8 cards, I'm the backer of the Amazon and I play a card over it. I take three cards, so I have 10 now; discard 3 dead creatures, so I have 7, and pick one card to 8?

My question is because the card says something like it allows you to pick only three cards, so I don't know for sure if it allows you to pick extra cards later if you have less than 8 cards in phase 3...

That is correct.

The Amazon allows you to immediately draw three cards when you play a combat card on it and you're its backer.
