Hello to all Hobart-based gamers, or to those with the ability and willingness to travel to Hobart.

The Hobart Games Society (HoGS) is, as the title suggests, holding the inaugural Hobart Winter Games Fest on Saturday 20th August, from 1pm to Midnight.

All reality is a game. Physics at its most fundamental, the very fabric of our universe, results directly from the interaction of certain fairly simple rules, and chance... (Iain Banks)

Good luck - I hope it exceeds all expectations.

Thanks OL - it must surely exceed expectations, because given the interest we've generated so far, expectations are rock bottom.shake

Anyway, spread the word if you've got any Tas based gaming friends.

From a boardgamer on the other side of the country, I hope it goes really well [we Australian boardgame associations/groups have to support each other!]*

HA! I guess we'll see how this one goes.

We thought that games might be a great winter activity, and that this might be a good time to host our first event.

We do have regular weekly game nights though.

You can check out the calendar on our website - hobart.gamessociety.info

You'd be most welcomethumbsup at any of those sessions, which will definitely continue over Summer!

I would love to come over from Perth, I absolutely love Hobart, one of my favorite cities in the world...perchance, tell us what games are likely to hit the tables at said event and how many people do you expect to attend?

Hi Ian - we'd love to have you over, although I'd hate to get your hopes up.

As for games to be played, it depends on ratio of newbs:members.

We're really hoping to get a bunch of new players along, and if so then the gateway specials will be the order of the day.

If it ends up being only us though, then I reckon it will be a few more of the great games we regularly play.

You can check out our game group recaps here on our Facebook page.

Well we got a bit of local publicity, but that damn M game always sneaks in, no matter how much we bag it!

Re: The Inaugural Hobart Winter Games Festival - August 20, 2011
So we had our Festival - Doug came down from Launceston, and many local visitors dropped in.

We had at least 6 tables of games going from just after 1pm until about 7pm, and then 4 tables going until we ended with a big werewolf session about 10pm.

All in all, a great day, and we're expecting many new members!!

Thanks to all you well wishers - the good vibes clearly helped.

... and to top it all off we got another article in the local Newspaper (Hobart Mercury).

Article here.

You can also listen out for an interview with me and some others in the next ABC Nerdzilla podcast!

Games played (that I remember):

Smallworld
Ticket to Ride
Dominion
LOTR LCG
Incan Gold
7 Wonders
Fresco
Taluva
Dixit
Carcassonne
The Resistance
Greed
LOTR 2-player (Kosmos)
Wings of War
Dicetown
Wasabi
For Sale
Pillars of the Earth
Transeuropa
Pirate Fluxx
No Thanks
Sleeping Queens
Make & Break
Ultimate Werewolf

I'm sure I've missed some!
