Anyone want to play Vassal?

Ideally able to make moves in the 9-5 GMT time window, ideally not terribly experience (I've played a handful of games, enough to write this), ideally someone who hasn't read the thread on the broken British strategy

All ideal, but not strictly necessary.

Geekmail me if interested.

Is that so you can get some quick wins in?

In that case, just be sure to play as British, and you can control how the game goes. Or employ one of our suggested fixes:

Start with fortified Louisburg and French get 2 turns on turn 1.

We've playtested that, and it gives the French some winning chances, while not mucking up the game too much.

Definitely not going to harsh your mellow, not a great player yet. But my test drive of the Vassal mod got me nowhere. If you tip me how to find the directions on it or even meet me there and coach me through it I'd be glad to play.

Anyone else has clues about the mod can chime in!

Hi!

Can anyone please tell me if there is any way to draw an specific card from the *locations and empire decks* in the VASSAL module?

I was surprised that I didn't find this useful feature in the location and empire decks while there is in the draw deck (!!).

Thaks in advance!

You mean 2 actions on turn 1 for the french?

Yes. Alternatively, you can let the French go first (with 1 action), which is better by yet another action.

For solo: File -> standard game, select a side
Play that side
Retire, another side, select a side
Play that side, etc.

For multi: create a game room (just type it in the main room box on right)
Other players must sync up with you (or vice versa)
File -> standard game, select a side
Play that side

I'm okay with all that up to 'play the game'. Can't get it to do nothing past that. All set up, I mean open, chose sides, all that. Then what?

Is the module really working ? I read there were some troubles with the discard and drawing specific cards, (haven't tested it yet with another player so don't know what the oponent sees).

Thx (and sorry for my poor english...)

Works fine. I would make sure you have the most updated engine.

Just to let you know I am working on the vassal module to add the "draw specific card" functionality; it will be a major rev change, so old save games will not be compatible.

I tried to fix it today. It should be quite easy but I actually discovered a bug! The vassal crew said they'd try to have it fixed by the end of the week.

I was surprised that I didn't find this useful feature in the location and empire decks while there is in the draw deck (!!).

That's because they are not implemented as Decks in the module. The designer made stacks by dragging the cards out of the palette one at a time when making the saved game for the standard setup. Visually it looks similar, but in module design terms means something quite different. If they are changed into decks, then you can easily add the ability to grab a card out by name.

There are a few other things I'd suggest, even not knowing the rules. Having cards land in the Discard pile face up would be one, since I saw that mentioned in another thread (unless they are supposed to be face down?). Everything that's a card should be in a deck somewhere--preferably on the board instead of a separate window--and removed from the Game Piece Palette entirely (so you can't create extras of anything).

I assume the Money tracks are open information, since those windows aren't locked to a given side. Those tracks could pretty easily be edited onto the map to save people from having to futz with so many different windows. It looks like there are meant to be a limited number of Forts, Towns, and Cities--those could go in an At-Start Stacks on the board and also get removed from the piece palette.

VASSAL won't do any reporting of how many cards are taken off a deck when you choose to draw multiple cards at a time, unfortunately. To get around this you can do a piece inventory to track the number of cards in each player's hand. Also I noticed that the key combo for returning the discard pile to the draw pile was SHIFT D. I don't recommend doing this because if players are using the chat window and ever type "D" in their conversation, the discards will go back to the draw pile when you don't intend it.

A Help file or a Quick Start guide really helps, so people don't have to blindly fumble around. A very basic text or HTML file works just fine.

And could someone please integrate a victory-point tracker.
Or did I missed it.

Thx,

No way to shuffle the discard pile before sending it to the draw deck ? (Unless I didn't see it)

Thx

This isn't necessary, because everything taken from the Draw Pile is a random selection.

I am working on a version 2.0 of the module, played a game last night with the module and have some feedback to integrate, it is 90% done

1. map is now landscape, the card decks have been moved to the right hand side; neutral empire and location decks are in separate windows; these have the ability to draw specific cards.
2. cards have been recreated as decks, with shortcuts to send or select cards
3. draw decks auto-shuffle, other decks do not
4, a card count for the size of each reserve is shown
5. a tracker window lets you see the location of all the towns and villages, for victory checking

questions and ideas; i would like your input
1. how to handle the money ?
- a track that goes up to say 50 for each player ? with a two side counter (with +50) if you go above 50
- or coins in denominations of 1,2,3,5's where the total money is the same as the coins supplied in the game. coins in multiples of 1's and 5's do not work as supplied in the game are too fiddly
2. victory points counting; have 2 ideas, one is easy to implement, the other is automatic but not sure how to make it work.
3. Ambush vulnerable cards, i want to make them obvious; perhaps having an (i) in the card name; so people can remember than it can be ambushed when in the reserves etc, rather than looking at every card. e.g. Regular Infantry (i)
