What can I do to improve the badge as it is?

I have thought about making two separate badges, one for each character, but I thought it thematically and economically would work better to include both characters in the same badge since their fingers create 23. I could also do a plain "23" badge, but I don't think it's as much fun as those two guys. I will try to see if I can improve the badge as it is. meeple

Can I request a microbadge for Humble Bundle?

I figure it would probably just be the 'H' from the word "Humble," but I'd probably buy it as long as it was anything representative. It would certainly fall under "video game related."

Microbadges for factions in Star Trek CCG and Star Trek: Fleet Captains. Requested here:

[listitem=1875018]http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/49228/item/1875018#item187...[/listitem]

Top one Borg, bottom one Ferengi. I think. I don't actually play the game. Color scheme is basically the symbol from the cards themselves. Recognizable to those who play the game. Redrawing them by hand results in mush. Mouseover is keeping in line with existing factions. "Star Trek Customizable Card Game (2nd Edition) fan - Borg", and "Star Trek Customizable Card Game (2nd Edition) fan - Ferengi".

EDITS: Spelling. Which I apparently can't do any more.

Truthfully, and I realize I'm a card-carrying member of the anti-perfectionist "good enough" club, I have no problems with this MB. I think the "I can't tell what it is" rule gets too selectively applied; just on this page of this thread alone, there are loads of MBs under people's avatars that I can't tell what they are without mousing over them. Like the Essen attendee, or that thing on Drew's profile that looks like a green frosted brownie square but is actually symbolic of some game I don't know.

If game-specific MBs are supposed to be ways for certain folks to identify other like-minded folks, then this works pretty well, though maybe trying to make the "2" and "3" fingers stand out a bit more would be the only minor tweak. But with a mouseover that says "23 Fan," or whatever, this MB is fine and, in the words of Homer Simpson, it looks like the thing it's supposed to look like.

I'm also grouchy today. Particularly so.

The issue is apparent when a badge hits 50/50 in a submission poll. How do you as a creator judge from such a result?

It all comes down to a difference in taste rather than various objective criteria apart from the technical condition of the form. Bias towards a badge is shaped through the various aesthetic and cultural, and even social preferences, and any badge is 264 pixels of information or not depending on how we comprehend the reference made.

I have tried the prohibition path:

There is stock circle with a line through it on the Stock MB images page (which I think would be better than the square). But I can't make out what is in the middle anyway, so these don't really work (not that I have a better idea)...

EDIT: I was trying to think what the most ubiquitous food is... my best idea is a box of McDonald's French Fries (I know, I know, very parochial of me). So maybe if you did the box of fries, superimposed by the circle with the line through it, that could represent food snobbery?!
