Jay from RGG has answered my questions in the past when asked, without demanding BGG credentials.

When it comes to Dominion apps, I think there have been more false assertions about what "Jay said" than statements that turned out to be true. I think it's perfectly reasonably to evaluate the source of this new statement to see how reliable it is. And it's clear from posting history that this source is not at all reliable.

I dont really care if you believe me or not, doesn't change the fact I asked Rio Grande Games and got a reply. Its not rocket science to send an email and get a reply. As for being unreliable because I'm a new member on the forum, thats pretty lame, I thought you might appreciate this information, not flame me.

It's not that I think Jay would demand credentials; I'm just naturally suspicious of new accounts -- devoid of any other content -- that chime in to support one side of a dispute or shill some new game or product.

Sorry if that's rude to presume, but it happens all the time online and has happened on this site.

Well, provide all the financial advise to RGG as you like, but from my perspective it seems that people are harassing this developer. I see two valid courses of action based on your reaction to this project:

Scenario 1: If you feel that RGG has made a bad decision in supporting this project, then send them an email and share your thoughts.

Scenario 2: If you feel that the developer is lying about having permission to create the game, then it will never get past Apple app approval process if you are correct. But, you can send RGG an email stating your suspicion as well.

I don't see how harrying the developer helps at all.

Oh, ho-ho. Hilarious! Apple does not throughly check apps for copyright infringement during the app store approval process at all. Unless you are infringing on Apple's copyrights, of course. So unless the reviewer of the app is reading _this_ _thread_ it could very well get through the approval process. Especially if it's not named "Dominion".

Actually, Apple has denied apps for copyright infringement before. http://www.appolicious.com/games/articles/6770-apple-adds-co... But, you selectively edited my reponse. See sentence two:

Which is still infinitely more helpful to RGG than discussing the merits of Apple's approval process.

That article is not about copyright infringement in general, it's just about removing blatant clones of existing iOS games. Here's the relevant text from the Apple developer agreement that they quote:
Quote:
“If you attempt to cheat the system (for example, by trying to trick the review process, steal data from users, copy another developer's work, or manipulate the ratings) your apps will be removed from the store and you will be expelled from the developer program.”

I didn't "selectively edit", I trimmed the portions irrelevant to my response. The second part you quote above does not change my point about Apple doing a poor job of keeping copyright infringement out of the app store.

Well, hmm, I have a solution for you then too. The appstore guidelines require all submissions to be in accordance with the law, whether or not their methods of identifying copyright infringement are effective from your point of view. In addition to writing RGG, you can also write to Apple about this possible copyright infringement.

I hope the game is released. I love the idea of using a digital version to learn and improve between real life playing with the tangible game. I also hope the artwork will be better. Not sure how to put this, but as a female gamer, some of the artwork of games is enough to make me not want to play. Accession/Godslayer is one of those games. Anyway, best of luck getting this off the ground!

The new users popping up here are definitely suspect, I'll give everyone that. My big problem with this is not defending RGG's copyright claims or anything, it's that the implementation flat out sucks. It's just not fun to play with.

If RGG isn't well into developing their own official PAID iOS version of Dominion by now, they're seriously goofy in the head. I really hope that's not the case. With the Ascension app out there, there's no time to waste and no room for a crappy product that doesn't at least match Ascension's quality.

Gundabad scratches the itch, but it's fake AND limited.

I just asked if Dominion was in development for iOS and Jay said, yes soon. No more details sorry, but it sounds hopeful to me. As for being new on this forum being related to being unreliable, I have been playing board games for about 30 years and have an extensive collection myself, some bulletin board online doesn't really relate to my 'relability' as a board game fanatic. Cheers.

Re: Dominion for iPhone and iPad
Just to clarify things on this issue if I can at this point. Over the past two years, RGG has been approached by a number of people asking to do a "casual" and free app for Dominion. In such cases, we have usually said yes with the stipulation that once the "official" Dominion app became available that the free app would be removed. Cory is one of those who asked and, as with others, we gave him permission to develop a free Dominion app, which I understand he has finished. I admit some surprise as it has been months since we last spoke and I had assumed he had decided not to complete the app. In any case, as long as it is free, it is allowed, at least for a few weeks until the licensed app becomes available.

I am sorry if there has been any confusion regarding this.

Thanks

Jay

Well the app is now out, and it is not that bad at all. I'd rather play it then that total knockoff that does not give any credit to Dominion at all. Anyway, I'm not a Dominion expert AT ALL, so the AI was enough to give me a challenge and the UI is simple but very easy to use and understand. It even comes with a handy tutorial for anyone that might be a total newb to the game. I'm sure the "official" app will be more polished and have more features, but I'm not sure I'm a bog enough fan of the game to pay for it when I will still have the currently released and free app to play Dominion on my iPhone with.

But I'm sure RGG is banking that many of the more "hardcore" fans of the game will buy the new app no matter what, and I'm sure they are right.

I am voting with my downloads and NOT downloading this unofficial version. I don't like how they released theirs as it confuses things within a short time of the official release. RGG should at least request for them to rename it.

edit: having reviewed more of the thread, my post feels a little harsh, but I'm definitely surprised that the official art is in this release.

It's just silly to say that the implementation 'sucks'. It's a perfectly fine implementation. Not excellent, not particularly slick, but it works and except for a few clunky iPhone pop-up menus, it doesn't reek of amateur hour. Frankly, if you showed me this app and then you showed me Bang!, I'd be very surprised when you told me which one was free and which one goes for $3.

Not going to lie, but that shut up people real quick. There's almost more drama here than what I hear happens on Jersey Shore. So much hate and not enough love for someone that put a lot of time and effort into a project they're releasing for free...

Well maybe there was some confusion about all this indeed, because I didn't have that level of information when we discussed on this topic a few months ago (but I must also admit that my initial email didn't mention the words "casual" or "free", so maybe that's the reason why).

Anyway, I am wondering if the statements above still apply, now that the first casual app has been released on the App Store? I can understand that this might cause some confusion for iPhone and iPad users looking for "Dominion" on the App Store, but it would still be rewarding to have that game, in which I spent some time during the past few months, published on the App Store.

By the way I found the other app to be actually quite fun to play with. Not really slick as other people said (mine isn't either), but still OK for a casual game. Congratulations to the developers!

And here's the thing... I own Dominion, but it is still sealed in the box. Timing to learn the game has never worked out. Between the videos here at BGG and this App, I'm actually starting to explore what I purchased.

And I'm sure it'll get me to purchase an App when it is released. This was the same story with Ascension: Deckbuilding Game, and I've played more matches there than I care to count. Still haven't cracked the box open except to read the rules
