Do you enter contests from podcasts or web sites? If you do, what is your big inspiration? If you don't, why not?

What is the coolest contest you've ever entered?

I usually mean to enter contests, but I listen to podcasts in my car and never remember once I get where I'm going. Between that and laziness I don't stand a chance.

Free games are a nice motivator, and for some reason I'd rather enter random contests over merit based.

i enter the contests here on bgg, the multiple choice random drawings, because they're so easy to enter even if there are thousands of entries. if a contest is skill related though, like involves getting some numbers right to get my name in a hat, i usually don't bother as the skill is the entry fee and it's still a random drawing after that, maybe with better odds though.

being a regular listener of your show i would probably participate in most contests you'd run that aren't competitions (like the music competition you ran).

Right on, brother! I just don't have the mental bandwidth to remember to enter them, or to put effort into a merit-based contest enough to make me feel like I'd have a chance to win.

Oh, I did just enter the "Top games from 2011" contest that Doug Garrett is running, which actually took a lot of effort (since he wanted a recorded mp3 to enter). But I'm on the verge of starting my own podcast anyway, so I thought it'd be good practice...

And on another topic, the "Hallmark moment" of the episode actually made me mist up a little. Thanks for the great show, and sharing your passion both for games and your families!

Hey, just wanted to say a big thank you for the mention on the podcast. We really enjoyed making "Deeds of Yore" and we hope you all find it entertaining. Perhaps, in the fashion of Donald, you guys can all try to spot any anachronisms in the film that we missed. We'd be curious to hear about them.

The correct pronunciation of my name is Cameron Paz-Ear-And-Eh (Pazirandeh). We look forward to hearing from you and presenting new episodes each week!

We are also on Facebook and Twitter.

Just chiming in to point out that you have more than five listeners.

And on the contest topic, I'm as bad as the rest, I forget (or am too lazy) to enter them.

For what its worth, I hate contests. I never enter them because I don't think its worth the effort, and I find those segments a waste of airtime.

That said, I don't mind "productive" contests -- ie the contests you ran to get people to send you music for the podcast way back in the 20's and 30's...because those are about improving the show.

Of course all this content I'm listening to is completely free, so I don't generally complain unless asked

Seems like Fantasy Flight would be perfect to reprint this. They have a relationship with both Hasbro (Fortress America for example) and they produce card/rpg games with Games Workshop licenses as well. Seems right up their alley.

I hadn't thought of that, and it would be a great intro to games like Descent.

Yes. I enter contests from Podcasts and Websites.

My inspiration is a great aunt of mine. She won contests and give aways all the time. She won everything from a computer to groceries to a trip to Hawaii. She is sort of a legend in her family.

When asked her secret, she said that she just enters contests when she hears about them. Enter enough, the thinking goes, and you're bound to win.

So, when the cost of entry on most Podcast or Website contests is usually just an random comment or an email, I figure "what the heck?" It doesn't hurt that some contests only have a few entries. One in sixty are pretty sweet odds.

I also like contests that ask for a little creativity (I'm looking at you Atomic Array). I have won a couple of those.

So far I have won (that I can recall):

* A long sleeve tshirt for my son for entering a comment on a blog

* Money by Reiner Knizia for responding to a twitter contest

* A customized Sesame Street Xbox 360 with a Kinect for entering a comment on a blog

* A copy of the Pathfinder RPG Core rule book signed by the design team for an audio story on how I would use it to defeat a great dragon for the Atomic Array podcast.

* A copy of Shadow Sword and Spell Basic for an audio story on what Conan would do when he finds a copy of the Necronomicon for the Atomic Array podcast.

* A copy of Eureka: 501 Adventure Plots to Inspire Game Masters for an audio story that turned the premise of Galaxy Quest into a Pathfinder RPG orc pirate fighting adventure for the Atomic Array podcast.

I think that's it, but there might be more. Who knows? Still, it's been fun and I will probably keep doing it.

Oh yeah, I enter all the BGG contests because, well, why not? I also like The Spiel podcast's puzzle solving contests. They're just fun. I haven't won any of these, but I enjoy entering them. It's cheaper than the lottery.

Unfortunately most competitions that I've seen seem to restrict entries to those in the USA, which means those of us in the rest of the world can't enter even if we wanted to soblue

I'm behind the listening curve as usual, but this was another really great episode guys (although I missed Scott - however, the "Damn you Nicholson" moment was literally LOL).

Cyrus - your Father Geek soapbox segment was incredibly inspiring. I'm only glad you don't have your own show because my Podcast list is already longer than my listening time...

Donald - I'm starting to worry about how grumpy you're getting for such a great guy. I hope you have a vacation coming up. Or have a lie in. Or try St. John's Wort. Or something.

Competitions? Rarely, because it needs to be a game/prize that interests me in the first place, which is relatively unusual. Of the few I've bothered with, I've never won anything.shake

Grumpy? Me? I've been having more fun with the show over the past 6-8 months than I have in quite some time. I'm just tired of people peddling crappy products off as finished items.

I didn't think I was being grumpy so much as trying to present alternative viewpoints. I don't feel grumpy, but if it gets to be too much, let me know.

Oh, and we're happy to say that Cyrus will be back on the show on a regular basis. He won't necessarily be on every episode - when Scott has time he'll be joining us again, and we are looking for other contributors, but if Cyrus isn't on every month-ish I'd be very shocked. In fact he was one of the voices on the round table we have recorded.

We are lucky to have him on the show.

Thanks! The feeling is mutual, but not in an odd or awkward way.

Well, maybe a little awkward...
